4 myths about cellulite

Has anybody else noticed how scary the word cellulite has become? I mean yes, nobody really wants to shout from the rooftops about it, but since when has it become something so shameful, something we should hide and something that we must do everything to stop?
I think it may have something to do with the little lies below…
CELLULITE LIE #1 Cellulite is chunks of fat
Cellulite is not purely fat, but more the misshaped mingling of both weakened skin fibre and fat. According to health.com, the parts of cellulite that protrude are bloated fat cells, while the indents are fibrous strands. The combination of these two things causes the bumpy surface you know as cellulite.
CELLULITE LIE #2 If you have cellulite, you must be overweight
NEWSFLASH: Skinny people can get cellulite. It’s not about how much you weigh, but more about the thickness of your skin and how easily the fat cells can protrude.
Strengthening exercises can help tone areas and push away the protruding fat cells, but weight loss from dieting and other means can cause the skin to become loose and further enhance the dimpled appearance.
CELLULITE LIE #3 Only women get cellulite
While women generally do get more cellulite than men, it doesn’t mean they don’t get any. In fact, livestrong.com explains that it’s only because of their thicker skin that you don’t see it as much. Men can get cellulite on areas such as the abdominals, waist and neck where the skin is slightly thinner.
CELLULITE LIE #4 Cellulite is caused by toxins
According to abcnews.go.com, toxins or impurities in the body do not cause cellulite. Rather, hormones, poor circulation and a lack of exercise and muscle tone can all contribute to a weakened connective tissue which allows fat deposits to protrude. Therefore toning and strengthening exercises are a more viable option than attempting to remove toxins and impurities through miracle potions and lotions.
Did you once believe any of the above cellulite lies? Which fact surprises you the most?
