Tips to help you: stress less on your wedding day
Getting married? If there’s one thing I’ve learned from being a bridesmaid nine times (yes, NINE times. And yes, I can totally identify with Katherine Heigl in 28 Dresses), it’s that weddings can be very stressful for the couple tying the knot. From organising everything in the lead-up, to the high emotions on the big day itself, weddings – although sublimely happy events – can also come hand-in-hand with nervousness and anxiety. And since no one wants to remember their wedding as an experience clouded in stress and anxiety, it pays to be prepared. Here, Jessica Mcleod, director of Oscar and Ruby Event Planning & Design, shares her top tips on how to minimise stress in the lead-up to, and on the day of your wedding:
Tips to help you stress less in the lead-up to your wedding:
#1: Create a wedding checklist. Use formatted lists as a guide, but eliminate anything that isn't relevant to you as a couple. After all, there’s no point in stressing over things you don't need!
#2: Delegate! Use your checklist as a guide and hand over anything you can't do yourself to those who can. It can be anyone from family members and friends, to event professionals if your budget allows.
#3: Book in your big-ticket items (such as reception venue/photographer/honeymoon) as early as possible so you can manage your finances to cover them without stressing at the last minute.
Tips to help you stress less on your wedding day:
#1: Surround yourself with calm, supportive people. If you know a certain individual is bound to add stress to your morning, give them a task to do well away from you!
#2: Take some time out in the morning to sit quietly and think about what your wedding day really means to you. Let go of any anxieties or stress you may have had in the lead up to your day and focus on the life you are about to embark on as husband and wife.
#3: Have fun! Smile and enjoy yourself. Everyone is there to support you and your partner and to celebrate the love you have for each other.
