Shailene Woodley's surprising beauty secrets
On the red carpet she’s top-to-toe glamour (apart from that one time with the chipped nail polish), but in her own time Shailene Woodley prefers to go make-up free and completely natural. The 22-year-old actress has recently been touring the world to promote her latest film, Divergent, and along the way has revealed some of her out of the ordinary beauty tips. Here are just a few that caught our attention:
Forget clay masks, it’s all about ingesting clay according to Shailene, who first heard about the benefits of eating it from a taxi driver in Africa. She told Into the Gloss “I've discovered that clay is great for you because your body doesn’t absorb it, and it apparently provides a negative charge, so it bonds to negative isotopes. And, this is crazy: it also helps clean heavy metals out of your body.” It’s not just a matter of digging up your own clay though; she says you should be careful about the source.
“The less I put in my hair, the better”, says Shailene. The young actress only shampoos her hair once a month, claiming her mane is very low maintenance.
Despite what the name suggests, this method doesn’t involve pulling at all. It requires you to swish coconut or sesame oil in your mouth when you wake up and spit it out. Shailene prefers sesame oil, saying “It really makes your teeth whiter, because the plaque on your teeth is not water soluble, it’s fat-soluble. So the lipids have to dissolve in fats, which is why oil works in your mouth.”
DIY beauty products
Shailene makes everything from her own toothpaste to body lotions and face oils. She even makes her own medicines. The actress claims she prefers a natural way to heal, after studying the lifestyle of indigenous cultures and discovering herbalism.
Vitamin D down there
We know that getting some sunshine is good for our health, but according to Shailene it’s also great for our lady parts. “I was reading an article written by an herbalist I studied about yeast infections and other genital issues. She said there’s nothing better than vitamin D.” Maybe nude beaches are the way to go…
Have you heard about any of these beauty methods before? Which one would you be most willing to try?
