When it comes to health and fitness do you know your glutes from your quads? Or are you the kind of girl who doesn’t even know how to work a treadmill? You took our quiz, now find out how you fared…
1. A –Cardio exercise helps improve your oxygen system. Cardio workouts you can try: running, cycling, and swimming.
2. C – Exercise increases your energy levels and serotonin in the brain, which leads to improved mental clarity. See, exercise makes you smarter!
3. B – The dance-exercise that’ll get you shedding the kilos is called Zumba. If you’re ask for Zumbo, you might just find yourself with a delicious pastry.
4. C – BMI stands for Body Mass Index and it is used to determine a person’s body fat content. The Breathing Mass Index and Body Measurement Index don’t exist.
5. A – A ‘normal’ BMI sits between 18.5 and 24.9, 25 – 29.9 is considered overweight, while 30+ is considered obese. Though don’t take this as gospel, as there are many varying views about the BMI and its calculations!
6. B – Research has shown that exercise can slow or help prevent stroke, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, and loss of muscle mass. So get on that cross-trainer!
7. B – Carbohydrate foods that break down slowly and release glucose in the blood stream have a low GI, meaning you’ll be fuller for longer.
8. B – You should never exercise through physical pain (unless your workout is part of a rehabilitation program), as it’s usually a warning of an injury.
9. C – If you only know kilojoules in food, divide it by four (or 4.18 if you want to get technical) to find out how many calories you’re consuming.
10. A – Skipping with a rope burns about 261 calories in a 30 minute period, while aerobics would burn 183 calories, and walking would only burn 103 calories.
