How-to: Use an IPL device
Now that you know exactly what IPL is and what the Philips Lumea Precision Plus does (if you missed it, catch up here), it’s time to learn how to use the IPL device. Once you’ve got the technique down pat, you’ll be able to remove pesky hair in a flash - and in the comfort of your own home! See for yourself in the video above or check out our step-by-step guide below.
#1 Shave the areas you’re going to use the Philips Lumea on and make sure your skin is clean, dry and free from lotion, perfume, self-tan and deodorant.
#2 Turn on the device and select the intensity level that suits your skin tone (according to the instructions).
#3 Place the device against your skin, applying slight pressure. Once there is full skin contact, the light will turn green. The device will only work once this happens, which is a great safety feature.
#4 When you’re doing your legs, simply slide the device along the skin, pressing the flash button as you go.
#5 When you get to tricky areas like the knees, you can lift and press the Lumea down instead.
#6 To ensure you don’t miss any spots, go back and overlap where necessary. It’s completely safe to do so (again, props to Philips!).
If you’re doing both legs, it should only take around 15 minutes. As for the underarms and bikini line, they can take as little as two minutes.
Have you ever tried an at-home IPL device? Are you surprised by how easy it is to use?

Want to invest but not sure about the effectiveness on at home products vs salon. Are any trial teams coming up so that we can test different effects across different women with different skin tones?

This sounds like a really good product worth investing in.

I bought a Remington ipl and while it's easy to use and adjustable strenght levels i really didn't see any improvement in reducing hair growth. Since them I've been to get professional laser done with no more than ten treatments and it's well worth the money. No shaving needed for months.

Since laser these days is pretty affordable, wondering which one is better?

This is so easy to understand, thank you. How's the pain factor?

So want to try this. I have dark hair and fair skin, so it is a good option for me. I have always been so bad at shaving plus my KP means I end up with red dots all over my legs.

Does it hurt at all?

Great innovative product. Women have been wanting a hair removal product like this for years. I know what's on my list for Christmas already.

I can't be bothered investing in an IPL but I've been thinking about getting a cleansing brush like the famous Clarisonic.

Sounds great! If it keeps hair coming back for a longer period of time than waxing does...I'm all for it

I am about to get this done, but I think I will leave it up to the professionals.

It does look super easy. How much is it?

I've used the Clarisonic and it was a bit of a let down (started getting breakouts) so I'm not going to invest in iffy items any more.
