How-to: Use an IPL device

Now that you know exactly what IPL is and what the Philips Lumea Precision Plus does (if you missed it, catch up here), it’s time to learn how to use the IPL device. Once you’ve got the technique down pat, you’ll be able to remove pesky hair in a flash - and in the comfort of your own home! #1 Shave the areas you’re going to use the Philips Lumea on and make sure your skin is clean, dry and free from lotion, perfume, self-tan and deodorant.

#2 Turn on the device and select the intensity level that suits your skin tone (according to the instructions).

#3 Place the device against your skin, applying slight pressure. Once there is full skin contact, the light will turn green. The device will only work once this happens, which is a great safety feature.

#4 When you’re doing your legs, simply slide the device along the skin, pressing the flash button as you go.

#5 When you get to tricky areas like the knees, you can lift and press the Lumea down instead.

#6 To ensure you don’t miss any spots, go back and overlap where necessary. It’s completely safe to do so (again, props to Philips!).

If you’re doing both legs, it should only take around 15 minutes. As for the underarms and bikini line, they can take as little as two minutes.
