Elle Macpherson carries what in her handbag?!

She’s 51 years old, but you’d be forgiven for thinking Elle Macpherson was half her age.
With her toned bod and flawless skin, she pretty much defies science. But what’s her secret?
Well, the model’s just revealed she carries a pH balance urine tester kit in her handbag at all times.
Come again?
Speaking to the Evening Standard, Elle said it’s her health weapon. She uses it “to check that I’m in an alkaline state”.
Not sure what she’s on about? In a nutshell, measuring your urine’s pH level tells you how acidic or alkaline your body is. But why does Elle care?
Apparently, having an alkaline body wards off sickness.
Kylie Armstrong, Naturopath at Sydney’s Alkaline Spa & Clinic, strongly supports the theory, arguing: “Western diets are too acidic, causing acid waste to build up in the body and wreak havoc on our organs, which in turn leads to chronic disease”.
According to Kylie, “to achieve optimum health, your body needs to be in pH balance”.
So just how does Elle maintain her perfect pH level (not to mention dive like a total boss)?
Firstly, she follows an alkaline diet (which includes lots of leafy greens). She also swears by her own The Super Elixir by WelleCo – a range of alkalising food supplements she released last year.
The model also eats three healthy meals a day, adding: “having said that, red meat, wheat and dairy don't work for me.”
It’s not exactly a flexible meal plan, but at bh, we’re big believers in finding the diet that works for you.
‘The Body’ also puts her figure down to “variation” and “consistency” – in other words, tons of exercise:
“I work out for 45 minutes a day, six days a week, combining hiking, water skiing, swimming and running on a beach.”
Yikes. It seems an alkaline bod doesn’t come easy!
Do you pay attention to pH when it comes to your diet? What’s your greatest health tip?

I agree with most of her dietary choices for myself but each to their own!

I can't believe she has a ph urine test kit in her bag!! Of course we know Elle is gorgeous but I think with all the workouts, lack of meat, wheat and dairy she is a little too hard on herself. Growing old gracefully won't be easy for Elle. On saying that, if an alkaline diet wards of illness then it might be worth looking into. Just think I don't have the will power (or wont power) to keep it up as stringently. Good luck to her and I wish her health and as I look old she wont.

It's super easy to check your body's pH levels with a urine testing kit.

Too much going on there. Exercise, six days a week - I don't have the time, and probably the stamina. No wonder she looks so good.

It's interesting to read that she also does 45 minutes of exercise a day - that's not hard to do at all - it's just similar to what I do which is also funny - it's just a commitment to make it a priority each day that is all and now I cannot imagine life without doing it.

I have to agree that our diets are often too acidic and being just the teensiest bit addicted to coffee and sweet baked goods I always take care to eat a healthy amount of greens. A dietician suggested I have a rainbow of vegetables with every meal and I have found myself feeling much better when I do this.

High protein diets are the worst! People who do them also have awful BO all the time. Raw fruit and veg predominantly in the diet, low protein, high carb(fruit legumes veg) would up PH+ in no time! Meat and dairy out is a must if one really wants to be super healthy anyways

Now we are assumed to take dietary advice from Elle Macpherson? Sorry - l will listen to a qualified dietitian. Not a model who is being paid to plug a product with her name on it. What happened to common sense on eating?

Definitely, an alkaline diet with lots of fruit for me and some leafy greens does the trick!

Wasn't that also a part of the Atkins diet, to ensure you were in a constant state of ketosis?
