“How I lost 10 kilos in twelve weeks!”

Losing weight isn’t easy. Before we even get to the psychological side of it all (think: actually, truly, deeply wanting to lose weight), there’s the task of sifting through the million different weight loss options out there. It can leave you feeling overwhelmed and, for many people, it’s a reason to give up before starting.

Motivation
I was that girl. Too many options, too overwhelming; it was all too hard. My BMI (Body Mass Index) was classified as ‘overweight’, so I set a goal to lose ten kilos so I’d be well in the healthy weight range. I wanted to feel better and healthier, and I wanted to be comfortable when shopping for clothes again. But, time and time again, I found that I couldn’t be bothered, so I’d just throw in the towel – so to speak.
If you’d asked me back then, “Well, why don’t you just exercise and eat healthily?”, my answer would have been, “Well, I can, but realistically speaking, I know that I wouldn’t be able to keep it up. I need to be pushed.” Sad, but true, and I know I’m not the only person that felt this way.
The Michelle Bridges 12 Week Body Transformation
On the Michelle Bridges 12 Week Body Transformation, a total 1,076,563 kilograms have been lost so far. That’s a lot of excess weight, a lot of people and a lot of success, and proof that this is a program that actually works. I thought, ‘could this finally be the program for me?’ Because, hey, if it works for them…
But I’m a sceptic and I needed more details. So, naturally, I did my research. I started by jumping on the 12WBT website and read plenty of success stories from women who had very similar mindsets to me – that is, they were in a health rut, and needed a good push in the right direction. Michelle did that for them. Before I knew it, I was signing up and committing to twelve weeks of weekly diet and exercise programs, and it was up to me to follow them. Throw another challenge in the mix: self-motivation! Thankfully, my partner decided to join me, so we were in it together.
My program
I chose the ‘Intermediate Weight Loss’ program, which involved a 1200-calorie per day diet plan and required me to exercise for one hour six days a week. Yep, SIX DAYS A WEEK. Seeing as I’m being honest and all, I’ll admit I didn’t keep up the exercise. I managed to drag my butt to the gym for about two weeks, but then my exercise became quite minimal. A walk here or there and a quick treadmill session a couple of times a week was all I could manage to fit into my lifestyle.
But, thankfully, just maintaining the diet saw those excess kilos slowly but surely fall off. Michelle features some seriously amazing recipes on the program, including burgers, fish and chips and pasta bake (yum!), but for her, it all comes down to portion size. This is where I needed to be hard on myself, as I was changing a habit. At times, I was left feeling hungry after a meal – usually after dinner – but I’d eventually get over it, and wake up feeling lighter, rather than heavy and weighed down by last night’s blow-out.
The program is completely managed online. You get your own login and portal where you can update and track your weight loss, set goals, and join in on the forums to chat with other people participating in the program. Michelle also releases ‘mindset videos’ each week wherein she discusses subjects such as body image and the myth of motivation. I found these really helpful as she’d touch on topics that really push you to want to lose weight, and not give up.

The results
By week ten, I had lost around nine kilos and the people around me were noticing the change. From my boyfriend to my friends, and my family to my colleagues, so many people were complimenting me on my new figure. By this point, I was well in the healthy weight range and feeling better than ever.
Now that the program has drawn to the end and I have reached my goal of losing ten kilos, I’m committing to keeping up my new habits and improving my positive mindset even more. I have the tools I need to continue on my journey to good health, and I now want to focus on my fitness and toning my body. Oh, and Michelle has a program for that too. Seriously, this woman has thought of everything!

You really do look fantastic and I congratulate you wholeheartedly on your results. I'm just freaking out a bit on the 1200 calories per day. That's not a lot of food! That is actually considered a starvation diet!

My weight is perfect always. I can go up and down couple of kg-s depending of my current work. If training harder then kgs go up by muscle growth, when i get lazy it drops a bit. All my life I have eaten unlimited calories, now it averages 2700-3500 cal/day
Michelle Bridges 12 Week Body Transformation program sounds very bad idea though. Any "program" telling one to go on hunger strike would result in loss of weight. Unfortunately i have seen too many times people putting weight back on and even more due to the messed up metabolism. What one eats (fruit, veg, nuts/seeds) is crucial as well as active movable body (our bodies are made to walk daily, not to go on wheels everywhere, also to do some chores/physical work like gardening, cleaning not pressing buttons...)

You look fabulous, and i bet feel just amazing! Must have been a gruesome path for you..I mean who can survive on 1200 cal/day training almost every day? Yikes! I would not be able to do it...
Just continue to eat healthy now, unprocessed food to maintain the results and stay active, with something you can do at home in your bedroom...like yoga, body weight stuff like calisthenics, walking...you must like it though whatever you choose. Most important is what you put in your mouth! Make everything yourself, so you know you are not eating "ingredients" but real food. Mostly fruit and veg, seeds, nuts...make nut milks, smoothies if you are in a rush, get cacao to make choco stuff yourself to curb junk food cravings....

Well done. It all sounds very simple but in my experience it's very hard in practice. Here's to all of us eating healthily and being kind to ourselves and each other :)

Congrats on your weight loss. I've just lost 11 kgs too & feel great for having done so. I didn't do it through the 12wbt as I didn't like the menu plans. I went to a dietitian and had them guide me. I must see being able to buy smaller clothes is always a good experience!
