Riverdale actress Lili Reinhart claps back at pregnancy rumours

The actors on the Netflix series Riverdale seem to attract just as much attention as the show itself. Most recently, Lili Reinhart (who plays Betty Cooper) has had to deal with pregnancy rumours circulating about herself. But Lili has reacted in a thoughtful way, posting the most perfect, body-positive response.

The 21-year-old addressed the rumours in a series of text posts on her Instagram story where she reminded fans that all of our bodies go through a lot of change.
“It’s unfortunate that one unflattering photo of my stomach circulating the internet causes hundreds of people to think that I’m pregnant,” she posted. “Nope. Not pregnant. This is just my body. And sometimes I’m bloated. Sometimes an unflattering photo is taken of me. Sometimes I go through periods of time where I gain weight. My body is something that I will NEVER apologize for. My body will constantly go through change. And so will yours. And that’s fine. So let’s not put so much time and effort into caring about a stranger’s figure. Bye.”
Actress Camila Mendes (who stars alongside Lili on Riverdale) was inspired by her costar’s response to the rumours and backed her up with another body-positive Instagram story.
“Inspired by you @lilireinhart. I feel bloated 24/7, my weight fluctuates constantly, it comes with being a woman and should be celebrated, not criticized. I used to fear the day that people start publicly criticizing my body and commenting on my weight. I’ve suffered too much from my own self-criticism and wasn’t sure that I could handle it from others. But seeing somebody as beautiful as Lili respond to public scrutiny by preaching and practising self-love is all it takes for me to overcome that fear. Proud to call her my friend. Let’s continue inspiring women to love their bodies," Camila wrote.
Hopefully, their words inspire many more!
What do you think of the messages Lili Reinhart and Camila Mendes posted? Do you like seeing celebrities get candid like this?

I really dislike how the media love to tear people down. I also don’t want to know personal things like that. ( in rumours). If people want to announce personal things then fine they shouldn’t have to defend themselves to the media

It would be horrible if people asked if you were pregnant every time you were bloated.

I wish they'd just say nothing. Pregnancy is such an easy one to figure out - just wait several months and you'll either see a huge belly or a baby. If celebs stop commenting then people will work out the media is just making stuff up. But I think celebs probably love this just as much as the media does because it gives them an opportunity to be social justice warriors, which increases their popularity with fans. Silly media or PR stunt? Hard to say.

It's unbelievable how much scrutiny these celebs' stomachs get. I've seen photos that just zoom into the stomach, unbelivable!

I had no idea who both these girls were but good on them for speaking up against the trash that the media likes to produce. I too get the bloats every now & again, doesn't mean I'm pregnant, nor does it mean that every other woman out there with a food baby is pregnant either. People need to lay off & stop focusing on appearance, seriously.

Good on her! The media always make up stories, I wouldn't be able to cope being a celebrity always having assumptions & pics etc!

I've been mistaken for pregnant too and it was quite painful. But I love Lili's response - so mature and articulate.

I’ve been asked a few times if I was pregnant. Some people genuinely thought I was pregnant others making a point. I learnt to laugh it off. But then I’m not in the public eye.

With all the trolling that happens as a result of social media, I'm glad when I read stories of women with this kind of confidence. It's especially refreshing to hear this so often from younger women. I don't think I would felt so confident at her age.

I feel sorry for people in the media spotlight, you have a food baby and it’s all over the news, glad it’s not me!
