Top 5 meditation tips for beginners

Do you love the idea of practising meditation but find yourself constantly putting it in the too hard basket? Well, take a deep breath and relax, because that's about to change...
Meditation has many health benefits, including stress reduction and increased resilience and focus, says Louise Ring, spa director at Chuan Spa, The Langham Melbourne. And while starting out may seem a little intimidating, it's never going to be too daunting when you're armed with these tricks...
LOUISE'S TOP 5 MEDITATION TIPS FOR BEGINNERS
#1. You don't have to meditate for long.
Attempting to complete as little as five or 10 minutes a day is a great starting point.
#2. You don't need to purchase expensive equipment.
There's no need for an specific items, really; all you need is a quiet place where you feel comfortable to sit for a certain period of time.
#3. Getting distracted is perfectly normal.
Don't be discouraged if you find your mind wandering off in different directions. When you notice your thoughts coming and going, gently bring your attention back to your breath.
#4. There's no perfect place for meditation.
It just has to be comfortable. This means your perfect place could be your bedroom, study or garden. The possibilities are endless.
#5. Try not to give up too easily.
Signing up for a meditation class is a great way to ensure you remain focused and committed to making meditation a part of your life. Focus on how you want to make meditation work for you, and give yourself a positive goal to work towards. (Read: stress relief or better quality of sleep.) If you fall off the meditation wagon, don’t beat yourself up; just begin your daily practise again without making yourself feel guilty.

Good luck to all the mums, like myself, who have virtually no chance of getting time alone to do anything relaxing! lol! I actually enjoyed my last MRI when I had no-one interrupting my thoughts and calling out 'mum' for something! ; )

It is so beneficial on so many levels. Everything gets easy to manage and word "stress" is just a word. Have no idea what it is any more

I've been very committed in the past to conquer meditating. My mind is never silenced. It's always busy. After months of committed attempting to do it I went back to trying to be mindful. I would walk on my own and only focus on the moment. The colours of the bush or flower right there at that moment, the smells the sounds...just staying in that moment and I found that way easier than meditating and had really positive results from my 'mindful' times. Stress levels were decreased sleep improved and the obvious benefits of daily excersise. For those that battle to achieve the meditative space I'd highly recommend trying 'mindfulness'

My mind is all over the place and very busy constantly (even in sleep) but also similar techniques work for me. As being present, and witnessing instead of being lost in it

That is also one of the techniques towards to that state of meditation. Many ways we can do it, and love your approach ♥
