Avoid self-tan streaks

‘Tis the season to be self-tanned – but ‘tis also the season to avoid faux tanning faux pas at all costs. After all, if you’re unhappy sporting a pale, white bikini bod, I’m guessing you probably wouldn’t want a streaky, orange one either! Am I right? I thought so.
Which is why, if you’re prone to being a bit heavy-handed or uneven in your self-tan application (come on, ‘fess up, it happens to the best of us – bh’s Liv is case in point!) you need to get your mitts on a Tan-Off Sunless Tan Removal…erm…Mitt.
The Tan-Off Mitt has two sides: orange – for light exfoliation, perfect for blending streaks and blotches; and black – for strong exfoliation, perfect for eliminating mistakes and removing unwanted product. All you need is a bit of water and you’ll be ready to go!
Here’s what one of our members had to say about it:
“Wow! Quite embarrassing I was very inspired to try out a faux tan and mucked it up sooo I went out and bought this little devil and was totally blown away by how great it works - definitely going to keep it in the top drawer for summer just incase ;)” – Tashii

Like the sound of the Tan-Off Mitt? We’ve got one to give away! For your chance to win, simply tell us, in the comments section of this blog, about your worst self-tanning faux pas…
Competition closes midnight Monday 13th December 2010.

Haha that pic is hilarious! My worst tanning story is I didn't blend my tan into my feet properly and it looked a bit messy. Not a nightmare story ... but still a little uncomfortable as I noticed people looking at my feet! :S

Gradual tanner did it too me! Too scared to go for a full on spray or lotion faux tan I did gradual moisturiser. It worked great over two weeks straight I looked naturally tanned and gorgeous.... except I didn't do any on my face so I had a natural looking faux tan tfrom feet to neck with a white face. Not the look I was wanting especially as I did it all to look good for my cousins wedding. Learn't my lesson :)

My sister in-law & I (as teenagers) always had the dirty look knees & elbows. Once Faye thought she'd put it on her face so that she didn't have to wear foundation at the beach, Big mistake she was a bit heavy handed & looked like she hadn't washed her face in a month!!

nothing disastrous just unsightly orange hands, feet and knees and stripey legs, the usual fake tan related faux pas.

I am slightly olive but at the wedding of my Balinese friend I ended up looking as dark as she was. Next time I go for a fake tan I will go for a milder shade.

This is about my mum's bad self tanning experiences because if i win , i will be giving the mit to her. She is a victim of over tanning and as a result she glows orange this time of the year. she makes the same mistake year after year. she needs a good tan off product like this one.

I have never been game to try using a fake tan because I have seen too many bad results. Maybe one day I will become brave enough to give it a go.

yes..... using it for the first time, i didn't realise it took a while before the colour came through. So 3 layers later, on just the bottom half of my legs, I had a very dark and unusually orange complexion.

Only a few weekends ago, I went to a concert and had a beautiful dress on. I looked in the mirror and my white legs seemed to be taking all the focus! It called for desperate measures, so I grabbed my GRADUAL tan and lathered it on as much as I could. We left home 5 mins after I applied the cream so I thought I looked fantastic, until later in the night when I looked down and discovered I was like a zebra -with white and brown stripes everywhere!

my worst faux pas would have to be the colour going on to the collar, cuffs and hem of my white miniskirt, top and jacket, if only it was just knee and ankles overkill

Well, a couple of years ago I thought I would give myself a nice spray tan from a bottle, for summer. It was touch dry in about 2 mins. Hubby called me in to watch something on tv and as my legs seemed dry, I sat down for about 10 mins. Later that day hubby mentioned my leg tan looked funny. Unfortunately I didn't realise I had crossed my legs and one of them had been pressed against the dark brown couch. It took a few summer weeks before my uneven leg tan faded away....Hmmm.

Back in the 80s, tanning pills were all the rage, I took a whole 'course' of them and one day while holding my hand out for change, I noticed my hands got a lengthy puzzled look from the shopgirl - I looked at my hands, I mean 'really looked' at my hands and realised they were APRICOT coloured and as I walked off I realised so were my feet! How I didn't notice this as it was happening is still a mystery. What's worse is that it took weeks for the apricot to wear away naturally - there was no scrubbing away the evidence. Very grateful for today's methods :)

Wow! I am always always tanning, I am white and cant tan any other way then from a can. i think the worst one was when I used a spray on one for the night and it ended up pouring down raining, and looking very bad, I must say it really drops my confidence having blotchy skin like that. I like to have a spray tan, or really good exfoliate and apply the night before. Although it mostly always can get a bit patchy around the ankles which is frustrating too! I really need one of these mits now, as its my boyfriends 21st this weekend and I need to get rid of my tan from last weekend and get a nice new one without it going streaky and uneven... this product sounds great!

A few weeks ago, I tried a tan in a can... I had tanned and a few hours later I remembered that I needed to shave my legs, unfortunately the tan hadn't completely set and so after I had finished shaving I had a really bad reverse sock tan line, my feet were so brown and legs all white. Not a good look, it would have been fine except we all decided to go swimming... I got asked why I was wearing socks in the water, did not feel cool at all.

Not noticing the big orange streak running down the back of my leg from the leaky tan in a can... Umm ahh a few hours later at the beach I found out - the laughter and whispers behind me as I walked past. Not one of my proudest moments.
