Beware the autumn sun
I saw so many people are rocking sunburn during the summer months it made me cringe! But unfortunately it’s not just during the typically hot months that you need to be careful. Many people still get caught out as autumn arrives and they think they can ease off on their sun care routines. I don’t know about you, but I think being sun smart is very important - especially for us living in Australia. And let’s face it, being sunburnt hurts, looks unappealing, damages skin and can lead to skin cancer – and it’s definitely not a look you want to be sporting in autumn!
So, if you’re keen to keep yourself safe in the sun all year round, here are some tips on how to look after yourselves:
Body – Use a good sunscreen with SPF30 or more (no matter what time of year it is). Apply your sunscreen about half an hour before going out into the sunshine and then reapply every two or so hours. If you are swimming, definitely reapply sunscreen more often! Follow the instructions on the sunscreen and make sure to not use it after its expiry date or if it smells or looks odd. Also, make sure to apply sunscreen evenly –stripy sunburn is not a good look either.
Hands – Even in autumn and winter protect your hands – moisturise and use a hand cream with SPF – your hands will get some sun when you least expect it and you will end up with discoloration, dark spots, and freckles.
Face – I prefer to use a sunscreen that’s made for face so that I don’t break out. Most of my normal moisturisers (as well as BB creams and foundations) also contain SPF, so that’s an added bonus. You don’t need to change these as it gets cooler
Eyes – If you’re out and about (whether it’s exercising or simply going for a walk) don’t forget about your eyes, ladies! Apply sunscreen and wear sunnies with UV protection – there are so many to choose from that will fit your face shape perfectly, so please do it!
Hair and scalp – I vote for fashionable hats simply because I absolutely love them! But I also recommend using some hair products with UV protection and heat protectants. They will help your hair fighting dryness, split ends and overall damage. You wouldn’t straighten your hair without using a heat protectant, so don’t burn it out in the sun either. Also make sure to protect your scalp – people so often forget about that! If you’re out swimming in the ocean or you’re going to be doing activities outside, be sure to dab some sunscreen onto your scalp where you part your hair so that it doesn’t get burnt.
With so many fashionable at options that will suit your style and shape and with so many sunscreens to choose from, and with beautyheaven’s amount of information and reviews, you have a wealth of almost) sunscreens to choose from, so all you have to do is be sun smart and your skin, eyes and hair will thank you for it!
