2019’s top dental trends to know about

While the dental world may not be the first thing that springs to mind when one thinks of the word ‘trendy’, it is actually one of the fastest evolving segments of beauty. With new technology being developed in every aspect from straightening to whitening, it’s no wonder people can barely keep up. We’ve pulled together the latest in dental trends for 2019, to help you wrap your head around what’s available and what’s right for you when it comes to keeping your pearly whites in their best shape ever.

GREEN DENTAL
With a move towards environmentalism and sustainability on every front, it’s really not surprising the dental world has followed suit. In an effort to reduce plastic, everything from bamboo toothbrushes (bh loves: Bodecare Bamboo Toothbrush) to environmentally friendly and biodegradable dental floss, such as Woobamboo Eco-Awesome Floss ($11.53, find it at iherb.com) is now available.
ACTIVATED CHARCOAL
Not super new in the scheme of dental trends - charcoal has proven that it’s well and truly sticking around. While it may seem counterproductive that a black carbon formula works to whiten teeth, it works to attract and absorb unwanted food, grime and stains for your cleanest teeth ever. Bh loves: Pearl Drops Instant Natural White.
And if charcoal isn’t quite your jam, toothpastes such as Colgate Optic White Enamel White Whitening Toothpaste feel just like your regular toothpaste but work to whiten your teeth up to three shades after only four weeks.
AT-HOME SOLUTIONS
People are busier than ever, and it an effort to make prioritizing your dental health as easy as possible, brands like Oral-B and EZ Smile are now offering smart, at-home solutions to your dental problems. With Oral-B’s innovative electric toothbrush and smart phone app, you are now able to access information regarding your brushing style that will ensure you never miss a zone ever again. Plus, the app even offers reminders just in case you need that little extra help remembering to brush on a Saturday night. Similarly EZ Smile Whitening Pen has made whitening more accessible and affordable than ever, boasting three to eight shades whiter with six applications of only 20 minutes. We’ll take that as a win!
INVISIBLE STRAIGHTENING
If you’d have told me in high-school that my mouth full of braces would seem completely unnecessary in 2019, and was to be subbed out by innovative new (and clear) straightening technology, I wouldn’t have believed you. With practically invisible aligner systems such as Invisalign and EZ Smile Clear Aligners, straightening your teeth is less painful and easier to fit into everyday life than ever.
Invisalign® treatment is a series of clear plastic removable orthodontic aligners that gently move patients’ teeth. An orthodontist or Invisalign trained dentist will be able to advise whether Invisalign treatment is right for you. You should always read and follow their directions for use. In rare cases, allergies may occur.

I love My electric toothbrush and would agree with others here that they are best. Colgate Whitening, Pearl Drops etc never did anything for me. I think the cost of Dental visits here in Australia is absolutely ridiculous. It’s really no wonder so many people have dental issues.

Systems like Invisalign only work if you don’t need to correct underlying jaw issues.

I've tried charcoal toothpaste & I thought it made my usually white teeth look yellowish. Gimme a whitening toothpaste anytime. I prefer Oral-B toothpaste.

Yup.
Charcoal is snake oil for a lot of applications.
It’s great for binding to toxins and drugs though.

I read a lot of world literature & classics. I've read about charcoal being used to clean teeth in a novel set in India & also in a Toni Morrison novel. That's what initially got me curious to try a proper toothpaste with charcoal.

Since you've mentioned Anaïs Nin, dare I say that I like Henry Miller? Are you a member of Goodreads?

I hear charcoal is really good but never tried it for my teeth before. I'd love invisalign but no-one has offered it for free yet LOL!!

Brace's are better then any other form even know they can be painful-that means they are working they are still better. I disagree on the Colgate Optic White toothpaste as it didn't really whiten my teeth although mine aren't that bad better off going to your dentist for this.

I have some charcoal tooth powder at home which has some interesting herbs in it as well. Problem is that after using on my teeth it ends up being splattered all over my basin, and it's not the easiest to clean up. My teeth feel smooth and clean though.

I’ve used charcoal! You can buy activated charcoal fairly cheap from a health food store and make a paste yourself, it can be messy! Coconut oil is another great natural alternative! Regular hygiene is key to prevent cavities and tartar build in first instance

Coconut oil is good for oil pulling.
Indo this out of tradition rather than because of any proof!

I've tried using activated charcoal powder with my regular toothpaste in the past for whitening my teeth and then gave up as I found it too messy. I think I need to try this again.
