How-to: Charlize Theron's wicked look

If there’s anything we love here at bh HQ, it’s when good girls go bad.
Honestly, how can you continue to love the hero in a movie when the villains are just so vampy? They make the good girls seem, well… a bit beige in comparison.
So, earlier this year when I clapped eyes on Charlize Theron in her role as the Wicked Queen in Snow White and the Huntsman, I couldn’t help but get incredibly inspired by how good it can be to be bad. And since it’s just been released on DVD, I figured there was no better time to bring you the step-by-step guide to her awesome make-up look. Seriously, if evil can look this good, I think we might all just give up the good girl act for good!
- - To start, opt for a light-reflecting foundation that will ensure the light literally hits and then bounces off your skin. We like: L’Oreal Paris Lumi Magique Foundation.
- - Next, choose a soft mauve shadow to create a smoky winged eye look. We like: Revlon ColorStay 16 Hour Eyeshadow Quad in Seductive. Tip: use the folded edge of a tissue and position it from the outer edge of your eye up past the end of your eyebrow to guide your shadow in a straight line. Remove the tissue and use your finger to smudge the shadow a little bit.
- - Use a purple eyeliner to carefully define your top and bottom lash line. Don’t be afraid to smudge the colour for a more sultry look. We like: Almay Intense I-Color Eyeliner in Purple Amethyst.
- - To finish, grab a soft pink lip and cheek stain and use it to provide a natural tint that won’t fade. We like: Jane Iredale Forever Pink Just Kissed Lip & Cheek Stain.
To achieve some supremely evil Queen-like hair, try a do-it-yourself milkmaid braid, just like Charlize’s. We have the how-to right here…
Now that you have the movie’s main make-up look sorted, here’s a bit about the flick in case you need some extra inspiration…
In this spectacular action-adventure, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) is Snow White, the only woman in the land fairer than the evil queen Ravenna (Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron). Ravenna wants nothing more than to destroy her young rival, but she doesn't know that Show White has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth), who the Queen dispatched to kill her. Together with a handsome prince (Sam Claflin) who is enchanted by Snow White's beauty and power, they assemble an armed force to recapture the kingdom.
COMP, COMP, COMP!
Fancy seeing the flick? Well that’s good, because we have 10 copies of Snow White and the Huntsman on DVD to give away! For your chance to win, simply tell us in the comments section of this blog, whether you’d prefer to play the hero or the villain in a movie, and why.

It's always fun playing the 'baddie' in a show. She must have had a ball.

I would love to play the part of a Vilain as its the total opposite of who i am. So it would be fun to take yourself out of your comfort zone and then turn yourself into someone so different. And i think it would be a real challenge. And i often like the look of the villians clothing as its often very ornate and well done to suit the character

If I could look as stunning as Charlize Theron I'd be very happy to play a villain.

Snow White and the Huntsman is the best movie in all the Snow White movies. The Cruel queen is the bad girl in the movie but no doubt she look beautiful in the movie. Specially her braid...

I have a good evil laugh but I would prefer to play the hero because they're usually better looking and kill off the villain in the end!

Even though villan's always have more fun, not very often do they win so, HERO it is. Being hero looks just as fun, and hey if you're a female hero, most times you get that handsome looking prince, so if anything comes up, put me down for a hero everytime.

Villian, the villian always has the main role, takes good acting to pull it off and is always remembered.

I'd go for both - either the villain who turns good or the hero who turns villain. That way you get to have the best of both worlds!

Oh I would have to be the hero, they go through so much ( sometimes they die and come back to life) but in the end they get the glory or the hansome guy.
