The cost of Kate Middleton's beauty routine

Staying true to the age-old image of a groomed and sophisticated royal, the Duchess of Cambridge has never made a wrong move. With her bouncy loose curls, perfectly primped nails and flawless skin, Kate Middleton is the epitome of a modern-day princess. From tennis matches to children’s hospital visits, Kate’s ever-so immaculate look has made her worthy of a royal title. But when the world is watching your every move, you can’t even let one flyaway stick out from your head.
A lot of hard work goes into making a princess fit her shoes - and for Kate, it’s a whopping USD $40,320 (that’s $39,310 in Aussie money), according to research conducted by ABC News America. ABC News visited Kate’s salon in London, The Richard Ward Hair and Metrospa, where she gets a blow-dry three times a week. That’s a whole lot of perfect hair.
Even though Kate might be bathing in a bountiful bathtub of beauty goodness on a daily basis, there aren’t many of us who can afford this level of luxury. And if, by chance, you’re part of that minority group, please contact me and recruit me as your best friend.
These figures may seem like proof that it takes a million bucks to look like a million bucks – but in all honesty, there are ways to look like Kate without breaking the bank.
Here are five ways to get the look for under $20:
1.) Kate likes her nails prim and proper – very British – so trim your fingernails and paint them with a soft shade of pale pink polish. piCture pOlish in Fairy Floss is a steal.
2.) Beat this beauty trivia – rumour has it that the Duchess’ glowing skin is brought to you by her love for Nivea’s Visage Pure and Natural Moisurising Day Cream. Kate loves that stuff, and so should you.
3.) Ditch the eyeshadow palette and create smoky eyes with Sax Crème Precision Eyeliner in black. Kate’s upper and lower lashes are always rimmed with dark kohl liner and a generous amount of mascara.
4.) If your locks lack the depth and lustre of Kate’s, help is at hand. You could try an at-home colour such as Schwarzkopf Brilliance in Chestnut or Chocolate Brown, and have a fun DIY party in the bathroom.
5.) Ditch the bold hues of berry and fuchsia lipsticks, because Kate swears by a natural lipgloss for her pout. Give Maybelline New York Colour Sensation Crème Gloss in Sandstone Shimmer a go.
And you know what, if all else fails, run to a costume shop, get one of these bad boys on your face and start signing autographs. No one will ever know.

Wow, that's a lot of money! She does look lovely though .. I guess I spend quite alot, I never question my spending when it comes to self-care, like moisturisers, cleansers, toners, and all that jazz. Perhaps I should keep track!

I don't think I'd bother with the hairdressers 3 times a week, even if I could afford it. I would rather splurge on SKINCARE and MAKEUP and PERFUME....but Kate looks naturally gorgeous anyway, I don't think she really needs to do a whole hell of a lot. She'd look great in her trackies with tousled hair and minimal makeup I think.

$39,000?? I'm sorry but for that much money I'd want to look like Helen of Troy, not Kate Middleton.

I don't spend often but I buy expensive products and services. Quality not quantity.

I recently read articles about how much she spends on her wardrobe and beauty regime. However, if she's using Nivea and shopping on High Street and still spending that much, I wonder how much other celebrities are spending.
I'm too scared to look into how much a spend per year on beauty

No idea just how much I spend - I guess it's all relative to how much we CAN spend without having the "essentials" miss out. I really do admire Kate - at least she looks a million dollars, which not everyone who spends megabucks does.

I would hate to have to look "pap ready" constantly (we all need our wet hair in a bun, moisturiser only on face with a spritz of perfume to finish whilst wearing slippers days ).I think (if money was no real issue ),i could spend a few grand a year to look good (going to Renya Xydis in Sydney for my hair, having La Prairie facials and wearing bespoke perfume from Paris...what a dream ).But Kate came from a pretty normal background,so it's a great to know that she also has products, and wears clothes from places we can ALL shop at (we all use Nivea,Essie and Mac ,and we can all shop in Reiss,Topshop and LK Bennett in London )

I have no idea how much I would spend on beauty products, I could not even guess. With son, daughter and partner to buy for as well, I would spend a pretty penny or two. SandraXxX

I use tried and true products that don't cost a huge amount so my routine is manageable. I do spend too much on my nails though (nail polish, not professional manis).

Nowhere near as much as her, that's for sure!
While of course I'm envious of her, I do sort of pity her having to be so put together 24/7. Grooming takes forever and I know it's just me but I'm not really comfortable with people (facialists, hairdressers etc) touching me.

I love Kate!! She always looks so pretty and polished, but without going for the top! I don't spend that much, probably because I don't have that much to spend. But I make do with what I have. (:

Ah I definitely don't want to add up the cost of my yearly beauty habits, it will most likely be a very scary figure! I am trying hard to cut down on excess right now though so that I am not wasting money by doubling or tripling up on products....we'll see how that goes :)

I have never worked out my total and don't really want too. I also think it varies depending on my mood but I rarely get my hair and nails done so make up and skin care and my major costs.

Gosh that's a lot of money to spend but I guess if you can afford to, then why not..... Hmm, my beauty routine is quite simple really so I don't spend a lot of money, but I guess it still adds up over the year....
