Quick tips: hottest racing season hairstyles
It’s hard enough trying to figure out how to do your hair for a big event – you ponder over beachy braids, XL buns and even some downright kooky ‘dos before settling on a style worth sporting. But add to that the stress of trying to add a fascinator into your hair style – eek! Talk about a struggle. And what tends to happen then is that most ladies end up choosing the easy option and just rock poker straight locks, but that doesn’t quite cut the mustard for me.
So I thought I’d put an end to the dreaded races-‘do-indecision (as well as the fascinator fear) and make life easy, with three celebs that always seem to get it right in the racing hairstyle stakes.
Do it like Kate.
As the daughter of racing royalty, Gai Waterhouse, Kate would definitely know a thing or two about appropriate race-day hairstyles. If, liker her, your headpiece is a little larger than life and does call for a down ‘do, try adding a few eye-catching waves to your strands. It doesn’t have to be difficult, and you don’t have to worry about rocking the Shirley Temple look either. Brushed out curls are a modern woman’s best friend. They feature the femininity of regular curls with the laid-back attitude of Blake Lively-esque beach waves. All you need is a curling wand (or straightening iron), some hairspray and a brush – oh, and around four minutes to watch our video how-to…
Do it like Emily.
If you’re keen on a sleeker style and a feathery accessory we have a few tips to help you get it right. First, ensure you choose a fascinator that’s lies quite flat on your head so that it doesn’t look too out of place on your sleek ‘do, and attach it close to your parting. We love Vixen Foxy Feathers Feather Hair Extensions in Teal (if you want to look just like Em!) Be sure to use a gel wax to really smooth down the sides of your ‘do. We like Clairol Professional Dual Ego because it can be used on both wet and dry hair. To finish the look, curl the ends of your hair to help prevent straight ends that stick out, and fasten your locks into a bun at the nape of your neck.
Do it like Emma.
Not only can Miss Freedman read the weather like a pro, she can rock a pretty races style like no one else, too. This style screams girly glam, and we love that she knows just how to wear her hair so that she can tackle an extra large fascinator with ease. To achieve her whimsical style, simply use a curling tong to add slight waves to the front pieces of hair (to make really subtle waves only leave your hair wrapped around the tong for two to three seconds). Continue the action throughout the lengths of your hair if you’d like to sweep your locks into a textured ponytail, or just do the front pieces and use your hands to fashion the bulk of your hair into a shabby chignon at the back of your head.
Which style would you rock for a day at the races?
