Crazy or curative?
We all do crazy things in the pursuit of beauty – ripping the hair from our nether regions with hot wax, peeling off layers of our skin with acids and abrasives – and that, it seems, is just the start.
Suffering from psoriasis or simply want an unforgettable pedicure? Why not try a doctor fish treatment? After all, they’re all the rage in Asia and Europe. You simply pop your feet into a tank or tub filled with the fish and – yep, you guessed it – the little biters nibble away at your dead skin, supposedly leaving you with smooth, supple feet.
Another treatment that’s made the uber-trendy (and we think kinda crazy) hit list in up-market salons in London and New York, is a facial using – wait for it – bird poo. Yep, you read right beauties. As part of this…erm…unique treatment, nightingale poop is dried under UV lights, mixed with rice bran and water and applied to your face like a mask. And the results are said to be nothing short of amazing – just ask Victoria Beckham.
The last, but we’re sure not the least, of the crazy treatments hails from the hair department and involves the use of bull semen. Apparently, when combined with an extract from the protein-rich katira plant, bull semen works wonders for revitalising and nourishing dry, damaged or unruly hair. Interested? The treatment’s available in selected salons in London, so you may want to save up a bit before setting your sights on this quick fix!
