I got my retainers today and I have to wear them 24 hours a day for 6 months. I can't talk properly. I'm really concerned that I'll have to talk like this for 6 months. Can anyone share their experience?
hey squeeshed. My sister also had a retainer, after she had braces. She also complained about talking differently, and was really embarassed! but after about a month or so she got used to wering it and how she sounded when she talked. All that was different was she had a bit of a lisp. I am sure you will learn to talk with it in, and people around you wont mind anyway. If you get any comments just ignore them and remember by wearing it you will have super cool looking teeth at the end! if you are really worried about it though, maybe ask your dentist or orthadontist if they know of anything you could do. i hope that is useful! x
this happened to me too, just in time to start highschool all those years ago!
it's because your tongue isn't used to being obstructed by the retainer device. it takes a bit of retraining to talk like normal again, but it happens eventually.
my orthodontist persuaded me that it's better to have straight teeth for the rest of my life than a lisp for a few months. now that i look back on it, i can't agree more.
stick with the retainers, you'll find that your 'voice' returns to normal in no time
Yeah thanks everyone. I can speak normally now (yay!) , my tongues adjusted with its new plastic friend. I'm wearing my retainers are much as possible, I only take it out to eat or brush my teeth. Although I can't really show off my teeth that much, I rather wear my retainers for 6 months rather than waste money and 1.5 years of time. My parents spent alot of money with my braces and surgery and to be really lazy is unfair for them. Plus why would I want to go back to my horrible teeth after wearing braces for 1 and a half years!
So follow your orthodontists instructions and wear your retainers!
I always wore my retainers and am happy i did now coz my teeth look so good. I had my braces off 3 years ago and i still wear my retainers about once a week or a little less but only over night
If you think retainers are bad you are lucky you didn't get twin blocks...I couldn't talk properly for about a year. I had like this lisp thing going on and I hated it. I get my braces off in 2 visits and then get retainers. I think you do get used to them after a while...I heard they really hurt, more than braces anyway.
Oh Jennrach...i'm really excited for you! That's so great!
Squeeshed...I'm so sorry for you sweetie! Hang in there, ok? I had to wear braces as a kid and then had to wear a plate but it wasn't too bad. We're here for you and send big hugs to you!! xo
well it is very slimey most of the time, and hard to eat things, i remember the time i was at school i thought you know nothing of it just shoved the chewing gum in my mouth and my mouth was like glued shut horrible experience took like 2 days to get the stuff off!! it was sore as well for a while mine were clear top and bottom they smell funny too, my dog always tried to get to them! yeah i use to go to toilets to take them out when i ate but its a pain when you have stuff stuck in your teeth then put them on yucky feeling! good luck with yours!!
Gross..I'm actually getting them next Tuesday!
I'm right there with you Jennrach...You'r going to be fine!! xo
I'm pretty excited..I'm not going to tell any of my friends (exept for bh girls) that I am getting my braces off so it will be a surprise!
Grats jennrach! It's definetly exciting to get your braces off. Retainers may be a pain (especially when trying to talk) but you'll get use to it. =)
I'm not really worried if they are a pain atm...I have had these braces on for ages so I am relieved to be getting them off!
When i got my braces off (about 13 yrs old at the time!!) I didn't tell my friends either! And when I went to school, some girls were saying to me...."Hmmm. There's something different about you, but I don't know what it is!!!"LOL
I can't wait for you! Oh freedom!!
How could they not notice! I know I will actually be able to feel my teeth properly and will be able to brush them easier.
Haha and when you get your braces off, you can't stop running your tongue over your super smooth teeth.
Oh yes, I remember that feeling!!!! My teeth felt sooooo strange for a while!
I bet is is strange in a good way.
Strange...crazy...weird...but definitely all in a really good way!!! xoxoxo

I got my retainers on and man it feels so good to have those braces off. My teeth got cleaned and polished so they came up a nice colour. I can't believe how stright they are now!!! I'm so happy!! :O)
Awwwwww!!! I am so happy for you, Jennrach! That's wonderful!! You did it!! You've made it to the end of braces!!! Gone forever!! You should be feeling really happy and proud of yourself!!! I'm wrapped for you!! When I got my braces off I couldn't stop smiling! Congrats!
Thanks GB!! I haven't seen my teeth properly in years and now I can clean and floss easily..I hated having to thread floss in between the wires!!
I received a sample of this serum and while it was only one ampoule, I noticed that my skin was so much smoother straight away!
Thank you to Beauty Heaven and Reef for the opportunity to review this sunscreen.
Having cracked heel is very embarassing. I suffer this for many years. So to find a great cracked heel cream like Du It, is really fortunate for me.
