I had an accident a month ago and am looking for suggestions for something to help heal this and reduce scarring
Aloe Vera cream is ideal for this and also a lanolin cream, Poor thing it looks very sore. Hope you manage to get what your after.
Oh my, that looks like it would have hurt!!!! Vitamin E cream to help heal, its also good for treating scars. Rosehip oil is excellent for scarring as well =)
I wouldn’t be putting anything on it except hydrocortisone (over the counter at chemists, no prescription required) use this when it’s at the itchy healing stage.
After that to reduce and improve the appearance of the scar either buy a scar gel (google it, heaps of brands) or a silicone scar patch. When you’re out in public and can’t wear the patch or gel some skin coloured paper tape works well to support and heal.
I’ve had a few surgical scars and this was recommended by my plastic surgeon as the best treatment and it worked well for me.
Same here with the silicone patches...
Oh no, hope you're ok! Agree with duality, to not put anything besides hydrocortisone until the wound has healed, as thats what was reccomended to me too after an operation. Afterwards I used Vitamin E oil and shea butter with good results, but definately not before the skin was healed and closed up. Take care xx
Did it need stitches? It looks like it needs to close still. The wound is still open.
Oo ouch, that's a nasty one! When the wound closes, I would suggest pure rosehip oil to reduce the scarring and make sure to give it really good massage to stimulate some blood and lymph flow x
ScarAway Silicone Gel or ScarAway Scar treatment sheets should help some.
MediHoney dressing is good for general overall healing.
I got a deep cut in the same place about a month ago and have been trying to promote healing and reduce scarring myself. I'm making sure to use sun protection on the area and now that it's fully closed I massage cream with vitamin E into it regularly (apparently the massaging promotes healing as well). I can't say it's fully disappeared but it's definitely so far made a difference in darkness and contrast.
Stitches then BioOil
Thank You all. They glued it instead of stitching. It's healing up surprisingly well. That photo was three weeks ago. I will look for that scar product but they told me there will be a scar all I can do is minimise it
Ohhh gosh that looks like it would have hurt! Hope you found something to help?
Stitches and then Coconut Oil... Soothes and keeps nasties out...
Vitamin E is meant to be good, especially the oil from the capsules.
I used Vitamin E oil capsules (as recommended by my dermatologist) to help heal my surgical scar post-skin cancer surgery & lemme tell you, it worked wonders. Even now almost 3 years on since that surgery I can barely detect it on my face. Mind you, I do use other skincare as well & that's probably helped; but in that initial stage the Vitamin E oil capsules helped. I just massaged it into my forehead for 5 minutes every night for the first 3 months, then I didn't have to use it again. It is quite thick though, so best applied at night.
I hadn't tried it myself but have read a lot about it and how it is meant to be beneficial so good to hear it has worked for you.
Surgeon also recommended Vit E capsules (once healed over) for small scar near inner eye from bcc removal 10 years ago now.
Can’t believe how well it worked - because it was a small scar he’d said to prick the capsule with a pin to allow a drop or two - that’s all I needed.
If I had another or bigger scar (fingers crossed) I’d give Eco Tan Glory Oil a go as the results seem astounding.
Apologies for graphic picture coming up - don’t ignore a skin lesion!
My GP also recommended using the contents of vitamin E capsules a few years ago to heal a burn. It worked brilliantly and I was left with no scarring.
Gosh you poor thing. Once the wound is no longer 'open' you can use rose hip oil (Swisse/Trilogy/Sukin). That did wonders on my C-Section scar. Can't even see it now. :-))
As a user of Lycon products in the past, I was really intrigued to try this at-home tanning mousse. Lycon is a salon-quality brand so I was really excited to give this a go.
