Youtube made me buy it?!!
Youtube made me buy it?!!
What have you brought because you saw it on YouTube?? A lighthearted forum topic
For me over the years I've brought- Mac lipstick in syrup- everyone raves about this. Mac pro curl mascara. Stila all day lipstick. Drunk elephant products- years ago. Becca highlighter powders. Hourglass bronze and brush. Timeless vitamin c serum
Share what you've brought because of hype and if it's any good.

Baby Soft Skin
This product exceeded my expectations massively. The texture of the product is really nice light and no smell whatsoever.
Not worth it
I got this in a Christmas kit in the shade Lean in. I’m not sure if the problem is the shade or the gloss itself but I don’t think it’s a product to use on its own.
Super glittery and not very lasting
I got this product in the shade 872 Glit/Doré. I find that the colour looks nice on first application but as soon as you blend it it fades and you’re just left with a bunch of glitter in your eye.

Or maybe I should get off you tube aghhh.
Mostly eyeshadow palettes (KVD, ABH, Too Faced) and makeup brushes because it's constantly in our faces (Sigma, Real Techniques).
Surprise, surprise, I haven't stayed loyal to most/all of the stuff I was swept into because of the hype.
Except the ABH Modern Renaissance palette of course. That stuff is a makeup diamond.
Now I only trust reviews from BH, Temptalia, Thrift Thick, Tati, Emily Noel, Tango2+ etc...
ABH Modern Renaissance and Master Palette by Mario. Could not be more happy with these!
Lots of products you tube and bloggers made me buy. But I only buy those products which I really need, I search about them and find the recommendation. Honestly there is not a single product which I do not like from these purchases.
Here is some must have which youtube made me buy, The Balm highlighter and limited edition palettes, Too faced Chocolate bar, Mac Lipsticks in Velvet Teddy, Mac studio plus foundation, Benefit Hoola Bronzer, Porefessional, Nyx lip lingerie, Urban Decay Lipsticks, ABH modern renaissance palette and it cosmetics cc cream.
Also there are some product which I want to buy but my favourite youtubers does not recommend me to buy.
Becca shimmering skin perfector in Champaign Pop: Very intense, highlight pores and skin texture.
Hourglass surreal light palette: Not highly pigmented, overpriced and does not work on medium skin tone.
UD naked palette: boring colour selection, not good for all skin tones.
Too faced peach palette: Not a very good quality eyeshadow
Too faced candle light highlighter: Does not show well on skin.
I think I should have a blog post on this topic ;)
I love Wayne Goss but he raves about too much - his rave about Mehron made me buy their foundation (also because they have a huge range of colours) and it was horrible stuff - so difficult to work with and highlighted every flaw possible and then some! I realise all skin is different but there were lots of comments about it being not good by others. I still like him and watch him but won't rush out and buy if he raves.
Two famous Australian YouTubers I un-followed due to their ravings about certain palettes that were absolute garbage - so much so that the companies Facebook page blew up with complaints and demands for refunds. It wasn't just one isolated item, that I could forgive, but many items lip products, eye shadows etc.
Now I follow Tati and love her thanks to several recommendations from lovelies here and every rave she has made I bought and love. Can't fault her!
I love Tati! She's so honest.
Honestly YouTube helped me build a decent make up collection but I've definitely wasted a few dollars here and there.
A couple of make up brushes were a fail, (particularly one from bDellium tools), however I've been very impressed with Sigma brushes that I've come across from YT. If I see one channel I'm subscribed to push the shit out of an eyeshadow palette, for example, I will then go forth and search for more reviews on it just to make doubley sure it's worth my mulah. Having said that I have failed on things and impulse purchased lately. For example, I bought the Morphe palette collab with Kathleen Lights - ended up being a whole bunch of shades I'll probably never use. I bought the Grav3yard Girl Tarte collab, the lip paints were awful and I'm onselling those, however the palette I really like and use often.
I've learned to take Wayne Goss' recommendations with a grain of salt these days, and I won't be purchasing his brush line as they're not vegan and very $$, however I'm interested in learning more about The Ordinary. Their skincare gets rave reviews and they've just launched a foundation line, and it's affordable but supposedly filled with usually expensive, high quality ingredients. I'll be hanging on for more reviews just yet.
Also I feel that young youtuber's recommendation can be great for their age fellows but they are not expert when it comes to mature skin. I love Tati too, she is really honest and explains that how product works on mature skin.
When I first started watching Youtube influencers I would buy based on recommendations from people who I just liked for their personality. Now I have learnt that it is best to buy skincare recommended from those who have the same type and concerns as me and also make-up from those who are the about the same age and have similar style.
Yay's - ABH Modern Romance, Mario and Self Made Eyeshadow palettes. Zoeva Cocoa and Naturally Yours Palettes. Paula's Choice Skincare. Maybelline Fit Me Foundation & concealer. So so's - The Ordinary skincare, Bourjois foundation. Dud's - Several Too Faced palettes, Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lips, Milani foundation.
Oh my, I have got so much inspiration from YouTube! I have three particular beauty accounts that I follow that I have got plenty ideas from.
I have purchased particular lines of cosmetics for the first time due to their feedback, for example: I now use Rimmel London, Avene, Touch in Sol and Clarins products because of them ha.
It is a good thing as you get lots of advice and recommendations however it is very tempting to get everything they say hahaha.
You tube recently made me buy the tighten eye and tighten neck for my mum and grandma who are unhappy with these areas. It's everywhere on YouTube and I was like OMG... I got sucked in but that said it does seem to work really well for a skin care product.
OMG i have been sucked in by you tube and tv ads buy this cream for lines around your eyes and face and neck. Here are some of them .Immortal , Manuka Doctor and Skin Doctors { beetox }. Some are good for older skin.
Nice to see you elmorules
I am so sorry but I really can't stand jeffreystar and I don't really get him her everything the hype etc etc. I don't get it, he looks like a girl wears heaps of makeup has tattoos everywhere but then sounds like a man and has weird clothes. Good for him for being him and I'm not being mean I just don't get it.
I think a lot of Instagrams have influenced me to buy things. Definitely a lot of the K-Beauty Instas. YouTube doesn't really influence me.
Can I please be honest and ask??
Does anyone actually really apply that much makeup on a daily basis? Like I watch these get ready with me, and Im often like what !! Like no... or applying false lashes every day? Maybe Im just living under a rock and it is really what people do- Enlighten me!!
One of my daughters does but she works in the beauty industry and so its part of her job to look amazing on a daily basis.
No matter what I always do my eyes....no false lashes as ive never been able to mater them.
I am a MUA myself but, hell no. rj you have read my blog and you know how much makeup i wear.
about 3 times a year I do a full on makeup with falsies.
The more products they put in their video, the more sponsorship they can get. I don't watch youtube on makeup stuff. Not my style.
I don't watch YouTube much any more because I believe it's all lies. It's always about new products and hardly anyone mentions or uses old products that are good.it's just the market throwing out products over and over again with YouTubers helping to sell the products.
I don't watch youtube and don't read blogs that are obviously full of ads. Come to think of it actually I think rj you are my biggest influence in purchasing behaviour in the past year or so. :) Love this forum.
