Korean makeup & skincare - my experiences and please share yours!
The list below is my personal experience with Korean brand makeup and beauty products. I've been converted for about 3 years when I picked some up overseas while in Asia and hooked ever since!
Please share your experiences and brands - I've only touched on a few! Some general notes I'll start with:
Skincare – oil cleansers, solid oil balms, essences, ampoules, serums, confused? Read this helpful board on Reddit, it explains all the steps for Asian skincare and also some ingredients to look out for https://www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/comments/2jcss2/asian_skincare_101_a_beginners_guide_faq/

Regular buyer for a long time.
Im stuck buying this product literally. I used it when my children were babies and now there a bit older and understand they no bath, cream, then bed. No cream = no bed for 3 very angry toddlers.
Smooth cream that doesn’t feel too heavy
This moisturiser has a lovely smooth texture and glides onto my skin beautifully. I found it left my skin feeling soft and supple and it also wears well under makeup.
Goodness in a Jar
After more than a week of using Pro X by Olay Anti Aging Wrinkle Smoothing Cream I can really say that the I ❤️ the product;

Roseroseshop has a few Dr. Jart products at 50% off.
I purchased this serum for $35 AUD after shipping.

Wishtrend is having its annual Black Friday sale but prices are USD: https://www.wishtrend.com/. I ordered one of every new item, including the I'm from Honey Glow Cream which Wishtrend sent me earlier to try and review. It is so nice - really great ingredients, light and creamy!
I just purchased the new cosrx snail peptide eye cream. It's got heaps of peptides and ninacimide
As well as snail lol
gag
I've seen that but have too many eye creams!
Anyone bought AB stuff for black Friday. I've been good and not bought anything but don't know how long that will last.
Just my haul of new products from Wishtrend. Otherwise, nothing more from the AB category anyway.
Iherb has this K Beauty trial pack for only $12.99 for the next 7 hours (1 per order per account to get this price):

It includes:
You'll have to spend about $28+ to get free shipping but there's lots of things to buy on iherb. I get my essential oils and carrier oils there and things like glycerin.
I started on a full size bottle of the Pyunkang Yul essence toner last week liking it so far. Soothing and hydrating.
I would love it if any of you ladies who use Korean skincare could recommend a skincare brand and or some products for me. I have dehydrated skin, red cheeks, some wrinkles and I am in my early 50’s. When I look on some of the websites I find it all a bit overwhelming to be honest. I have gone back through the last ten pages here and all your knowledge is amazing, so I thought what better place to ask.
I usually recommend Korean brands Cosrx and Klairs for newbies. I still use and love a lot of their products. Klairs, in particular, caters for a broad spectrum of different skin types. I am a dry skin type myself.
Ultimately, for a dry or dehydrated skin type, you should ideally be incorporating a lot of hydrating products into your skin care routine and Korean skincare products offer a lot of hydrating benefits. Three categories of Korean skincare products worth considering: hydrating toner (also called "Skin"), essences and sheet masks. Although I recommend more affordable Taiwan sheet mask brands like My Beauty Diary and My Scheming for regular sheet mask use.
I never go without using a hydrating toner. My current favourite is Dear, Klairs Daily Skin Hydrating Water: https://www.yesstyle.com/en/dear-klairs-daily-skin-hydrating-water-500ml/info.html/pid.1078583776. This is a bit expensive right now so I usually wait for a sale but 500ml is a HUGE bottle. I also highly recommend Laneige Cream Skin Refiner: https://www.yesstyle.com/en/laneige-cream-skin-refiner-150ml-150ml/info.html/pid.1069239779. I use and own several bottles of this and even have travel size bottles of it.
My moisturiser recommendations are COSRX Balancium Comfort Ceramide Cream: https://www.yesstyle.com/en/cosrx-balancium-comfort-ceramide-cream-80g/info.html/pid.1071622271, Laneige Cica Sleeping Mask (for night use only) https://www.yesstyle.com/en/laneige-cica-sleeping-mask-60ml/info.html/pid.1072762036 and/or I'm From Honey Glow Cream: https://www.yesstyle.com/en/im-from-honey-glow-cream-50g/info.html/pid.1078092210.
If you have perpetually red cheeks, then I suspect you might have rosacea. That is a more difficult skin concern to tackle. This link to the Asian Beauty subreddit post on product suggestions for rosacea is worth checking out: https://www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/comments/4v2uii/best_products_for_common_skin_concerns_series/.
For wrinkles, I think you should look into products with bakuchiol or retinol. That is beyond the scope of this thread though. We did have a thread that had a lot of information about tackling pigmentation and discussed different sorts of retinol but I have not been able to locate it.
Thank you so much Ethelinde, I appreciate your help with this. Lots of things to look up, purchase and see how they go. I realise it can be trial and error with products but with your help I now have some direction. Thanks again
My pleasure Sharon691 :)
Just placed an order with Nudie Glow (my first!) for the following:
Has anyone tried these before? Or any other must have products I need to check out on Nudie Glow?
Yes to all of the above, except Heimish Bulgarian Rose Water Hydrogel Eye Patches.
What would you like to know?
Otherwise, in short:
I love all the Huxley oils. Nothing bad to say about any of them. Klairs vitamin C is comprised of a vitamin C derivative so it is not a particularly strong vitamin C but I think there are visible brightening results with use over time. Oily consistency. I can't make up my mind about the Laneige Glowy Makeup Serum. It's pretty average. Definitely does not live up to its hydrating claims and certainly not enough to be something of a substitute for a hydrating primer.
Nudie Glow is not the cheapest place to buy these items. I would recommend something like Jolse, Roseroseshop, Sweetcorea and even Yesstyle (when they are on sale).
Excited to try the Huxley oils now!
Will definitely check out the other stores you've recommended!
How often were you using the Klairs?
Every day.
I also misled you about the Klairs. It is not a vitamin C derivative. There is about 5% ascorbic acid in it (i.e. pure vitamin C). 5% is just not a strong dose so the brightening effects take a while and you have to consistently use it.
Hello ladies! I am using korean cosmetics for few month now and I love it! I am little confused if I use it in the right order. Would you please help me with that? So, for example at night after double cleansing I use 1. COSRX AHA/BHA toner 2. Drunk Elephant glycolic night serum 3. The Ordinary hyaluronic serum 4. COSRX 95 tone balancing essence 5. Klairs midnight blue Youth activator drop 6. The Ordinary niacinamide 7. Benton snail bee moisturiser cream 8. Vitamin oil serum Is it too much to use? I was thinking to use vitamin C but don't really know in which order to use all that, especially the Klairs drop. What would you recommend? Thank you! You inspire me! :)
I wouldn't recommend using both an AHA/BHA toner AND the Drunk Elephant Glycolic Night Serum (which is an AHA). That's too much exfoliation in one routine for anyone.
Otherwise, it looks like the order should be after double cleansing, 1. Cosrx AHA/BHA Toner, 2. Cosrx 95 Tone Balancing Essence, 3. Klairs Blue Youth Activator Drop (I think the consistency of this is thin - correct me if I am wrong about that), 4. The Ordinary Hyaluronic Serum, 5. The Ordinary Niacinamide, 6. Vitamin Oil Serum (is the consistency thicker than the previous products, i.e. like an oil?), 7. Benton Snail Bee Moisturiser Cream.
If you're going to incorporate the Drunk Elephant Glycolic Night Serum, don't use the AHA/BHA Toner in the same routine. I would use it after whatever other toner you use and leave it (and perhaps only use 7. after that). I prefer to leave acids as undiluted by other products as possible and only use 1-2 times a week.
If you plan to incorporate vitamin C, it depends on what type of vitamin C it is. If it is ascorbic acid, you cannot use The Ordinary Niacinamide in the same routine or night. I also don't recommend using AHA/BHA Toner or the Drunk Elephant Glycolic Night Serum on the same night you use vitamin C. Alternatively, you can use the vitamin C in the mornings and then use the acid stuff at night and not the vitamin C. Again though, it depends on what kind of vitamin C you would be using. I am not going to go into the different types of vitamin C in this thread. There are other threads where we discuss vitamin C.
Thank you so much for such a detailed answer! What moisturizing mist you would recommend to use during the day? We have very dry air and I think an extra hydration to the skin would be helpful when I am not home. Thank you so much!
Laneige Cream Refiner Mist or touch up with an essence.
What comes to vitamin C, I have Eva naturals serum However it contains 2% retinol, so I don't won't to use it in the morning. I probably should consider find another vit C... I'll try to find the page with vitamin C discussion. Thanks! :)
Here's the vitamin C thread: https://www.beautyheaven.com.au/forums/skincare/vitamin-c-serum-0?page=19#comment-4472044
