Precision Foam Colour Collection Reviews

I have been home colouring my hair for about five years now. My latest purchase was the John Frieda Precision Foam.

I have dark brown coloured hair and I used the colour 8A - Medium Ash Blonde. I tend to throw orange so I have to be careful what colour I use.

I must admit to being a bit trepidatious about using this hair colour never having used a foam before.

I poured the colour into the squeezy bottle and did the whole tipping not shaking thing. When I squeezed the bottle I was quite surprised to see that it actually worked! Out of the spout came the white foam!

I didn’t use a towel (I did wear an old T-shirt) or spot test (I never do) or bothered with the oil based cream that they recommend you apply around your face to stop staining the skin. I was doing this at 11 o’clock at night and if I wasted time doing all that I’d be going to bed at one am.

The black gloves that came with the colour were good not the usual plastic bag type.

The instructions to mix the colourant with the developer are simple and easy to follow.

Firstly, it smelled quite strongly more than some others I have used. I actually didn’t think there would be enough to do my hair but the mixture does go a long way when making it into foam although any longer than shoulder length hair and you might be making a desperate run to the supermarket to get more product.

The foam in my hair did not look like the models no matter how much I massaged it in. It stung a bit but not unbearable. After a while it just felt tingly. I left it in for about 15 minutes after waiting the 10 minutes for my roots. There was no dripping but I did worry about some flicking. Oh well, my husband has some interesting new colours on his towel.

The 50ml twist cap tube that comes with this dye is generous and I’ve already used it three times with still plenty left.

It didn’t completely cover all my greys but that’s okay because I don’t have that many. Other than that the colour took really well and has not been too drying on my hair. Next time I’ll leave it on for longer.

I used this hair colour about a month ago.I chose the shade Light Natural Brown.My hair is brown , so I picked up a shade close to my natural colour.
Well , I was impressed.Definately this is the best hair colour I used to colour my hair at home.The application is super easy thanks to the squeeze bottle.Mess free.Excelent coverage because of the foam.It doesn't smell too strong , like other brands do.
The colour is still bright after one month.
And the little tube of hair conditioner is a nice surprise, it helps to maintain the colour.

I used the colour 8N Medium natural blonde and it is anything but!! The application was easy enough (nothing special) but the colour turned my natural blonde hair (a shade or so lighter than the dye) a terrible golden ginger colour!! Looks similar to a bleach job done in bali. The colour on the packet is false advertising, I wouldn't recommend anyone try their blonde range at least. Two stars because If the colour hadn't be a disaster it would have been a decent experience.

I love the colour options and the ease of application. I tend to go towards the dark brown red options. My hair looks vibrant and shiny and I get compliments. It is at the more expensive end of the home hair dyes (so it's only right that they provide nice black gloves rather than clear flimsy things). It is easy to use with plenty of product for all hair lengths. The conditioner provided lasts for ages too. I really like it.

I have used lots of foam hair colours in the past, which have been quite good. This brand isn't my favourite. You do get a large amount of product that easily covered my shoulder length hair. I also like the gloves included, nice professional black ones, instead of clear plastic ones.

The staying power of this foam wasn't great I found my roots started to show after a couple of weeks.

Other brands have lasted much longer on my hair.

After having a very negative experience with a hair dye foam in the past I was reluctant to try this but after reading the extensive BH reviews and the Trial Team reviews I felt confident to give foams another go. Glad I did, this product did not disappoint!

Comes in a very neat package, you just empty the developer into the main bottle, invert 5 times (don't shake!) then apply the pump cap. To get product out you hold the bottle upright and squeeze and a thick luxurious foam comes out. Unlike the previous foam I used this one coats the hair and you can clearly see where you have already been (the other one completely disappeared and I could not see where I had already applied meaning lots of missed patches).

It also comes with a very generous 50ml conditioner bottle (enough for several applications) and some excellent quality black gloves which actually fit my hands (usually they are too big) as well as a comprehensive instruction leaflet.

I am plagued by my dark ash blonde hair throwing brassy orange tones as I had dyed it black for years and only recently had it stripped back. I use purple toning shampoos but they only help to a point, every few months I have to do a full-head dye with a good ash toned product to get rid of the orange. This product exceeded my expectations, I could tell immediately after rinsing that it had accomplished the job and once dried, my hair had zero orange and also was not left with that murky green look that some ash dyes create.

Cannot ever see myself going back to the traditional gel or cream bottle type dyes, this foam was a pleasure to work with - no drips, easy to cover all hair and so easy to get all the product out of the bottle with just easy gentle squeezes. I am stocking up whenever I see it on sale as it truly is a great product and very economical given the quality of the products, the gloves and the generous conditioner.

I used this on my daughter's hair and found it so easy to control while putting into her hair. There were no dripping messes at all! What a great product for this reason alone but also because of the way the colour turned out on my daughter. The colour really looked great with her skin and looked natural yet prettier than usual. It also didn't smell like the older at-home dye kits. For these two reasons I would buy it for her and do it again for her. By the way, she was so happy I could do this for and was impressed how clever her mum was at dying her hair! ; )

I reviewed this product a few months ago when I used it to colour my hair red. I had previously also used it to color my hair brown. I always thought highly of this product but recently I used it again and now I feel like I want to shout it from the roof tops. Here is my story.

My hair was a light to medium brown and I decided to go lighter (at home). I used salon bleach and lifted my hair colour. As expected, my hair came out quite yellow and brassy. Damage had occured but nothing too drastic. I then opted to color over it with a box colour in medium ash blonde colour by a popular brand that happened to be on promotion at Priceline. HORRIBLE! Not only did it not tone my hair down at all, but it turned out patchy. It was a disaster. So I then purchased another box colour by the same brand in the colour 'dark ash blonde'. My hair then turned out golden and remained patchy. At this point it was quite damaged and not very nice at all. Not only that, but I needed two boxes each application and the application it self was not very enjoyable. I also tried a toner, but that didnt work.

A few days later, I was on my way to the salon to book an appointment to have my hair fixed when I decided to browse through the John Frieda Precision Foam range to see if there was any colour that might help (asides from going back to dark). I found the colour 8A Medium Ash Blonde. At this point I was so skeptical because I had already used two different 'ash' colours and all I was left with was patchy, gold hair.

I decided to purchase it. Application, as always, was a breeze. Easy and fun, no overpowering smell and plenty of product (I only needed one box for thick, just over the shoulder length hair). Developing time was only 25 minutes and once rinsing, I used the provided conditioner. As soon as I saw my hair, still wet, I knew that it was a success. After drying and straightening, I was so happy!! My hair is now an ashy light/medium blonde. No more golden and no more patches!! Not only that, but my hair is somehow in better condition than it was before colouring it with the precision foam.

What an amazing product! I can not guarantee that it will work for every body, but it sure works for me! John Frieda Precision Foam, you gem!

Firstly, let me start by saying that I called the support line prior to my purchase as I wanted to know if this was suitable for my balayage hair (virgin black roots with lightened ends with bleach and toner which was done in salon). I was advised that the Dark Cool Espresso Brown would work on my natural black hair and that it wouldn't definitely work on the ends. I was told to dye the ends before the roots. I have thick hair that's half way down my back, I was also told that one pack would be enough. I bought two anyway and lucky I did or else I'd only have the ends covered with foam.

It was easy to mix and pump out. It dried my hair while I was applying it and a lot of hair actually fell out. After applying to my whole head, I put on a showercap and left it for half an hour. I then rinsed it out. To my disappointment, my black roots are still black, the ends have copper tones in it and because it didn't work on the roots, it now looks like bad regrowth (due to it only working where the balayage was).

I am very disappointed as I felt confident after speaking with the support line but now I just wish I went to a salon. I will have to get the roots done and also the ends because it is light and patchy.
