How-to: turn fine hair into thick, luscious locks

Celebrities may seem like superheroes to us sometimes; untouchable, perfect – in a total league of their own, but I’m here to tell you that celebrities aren’t exempt from the beauty issues that plague you and I – oh no.
Take Kate Hudson here. She always looks ravishing, totally naturally gorgeous, right? Well did you know that Kate actually has really fine hair? Just a lot of it. Yep, making Kate’s hair look full and amazing takes a lot of hard work and the right products. Discover how you can make the most of your fine hair and even help it to become thicker over time…
TOP TIPS TO FAKE THICKER HAIR
Plump up the roots
Simply spritz a root-lifting product onto the roots of your hair while damp and massage it through with your fingertips. Once blow-dried dry, use a teasing brush to give your roots even more ‘oomph’.
Brush it out
Use a curling tong to create tight ringlets in your hair. Once cooled, use a paddle brush to brush them out and create the appearance of lots and lots of hair!
TOP TIPS TO ENSURE THICKER HAIR NATURALLY
Get rid of the build-up
Pesky things like sebum and product remnants can clog your pores and seriously hinder the health of your scalp and consequently, your hair. What you need is a shampoo that effectively cleanses and exfoliates your scalp so that your hair can grow from a healthy foundation. Aveda Invati™ Exfoliating Shampoo claims to reduce hair loss by 33 per cent, which means it helps to make sure your existing hair stays around for longer. Aveda Invati™ Exfoliating Shampoo contains naturally derived salicylic acid from wintergreen and works to exfoliate your scalp, which helps to promote healthy cellular renewal. This exfoliator for your hair is ideal for men and women with thinning hair, loss of volume, lack of density or a dry and tight scalp.
Nourish the hair you have
Clinically proven to thicken hair, Aveda Invati™ Thickening Conditioner contains a blend of guar and rapeseed-derived ingredients that penetrate deep within your hair shaft and help restore strength, improve elasticity and reduce breakage while creating a weightless surface to thicken hair. The product contains Aveda’s Densiplex™ complex, which contains an invigorating blend of ayurvedic herbs including turmeric and ginseng, which helps to energise and rehabilitate the scalp around the follicles when massaged in. The great thing about this product is that it helps to repair the existing hair shafts while also treating your scalp to ensure your new hair is healthy, too.
Treat your scalp right
The best way to improve the way your hair grows is to improve the condition of the foundation from which it stems – your scalp. Aveda Invati™ Scalp Revitalizer works to treat your scalp around the follicles where your hair grows and helps to promote healthier hair growth. This is thanks to a Densiplex™ complex, which contains a blend of vitamin E, lavender, rosemary, ylang ylang, myrtle and ambrette essential oils to help accelerate microcirculation and rehabilitate your scalp over time.

I have lots of fine hair but it tends to be frizzy even after I have blown dried it. The hair straightener seems to be the only way I can get it to look good even though I can't get it as good as when I go to my hair dresser. Also, I lose a lot of hair in the shower as well so I am surprised that I am not going bald. I see so many great products but where do I start??

I have just used the VS Sassoon Big Hair Root Booster crimping iron, I LOVE IT. I was a little skeptical when I first heard about it especially as my hair is 1/2 down my back and very straight. It worked a treat, I have full hair and can't see the crimps at all. I didn't use hairspray this time as I was trialing it, but in future I will spray the root first, then crimp which will make it last longer. Plus it was so easy to use. No, I don't work for VS lol just love the results so much I had to share.

Really want to try the aveda products! They sound great.
I get my hair cut in layers for some volume and then use a volumising mousse and blowdry my hair upside down. I'm going to try a root lifting spray instead and see how that goes :)
