Be Curly Co-Wash Reviews

THE DILEMMA:
I have type 2B wavy hair with indistinct curls and after years of fighting it, I've finally decided to go with it. I wash my hair roughly every 2-3 days and it has really taken a lot of damage over the last few years as my ends are extremely dry and brittle. Washing it so frequently is a major no-no for waves and curls so I've been envious of women who are able to withstand washing their hair every once a week. I can't go 2 days without my scalp flaking and itching, despite trying a range of products like Head & Shoulders which really messes up my hair.

My hairstylist (who specialises in cutting and caring for curls) recommended co-washing where I'd rinse the scalp between the week, skip the shampoo and go straight for the conditioner. That only aggravated the itching even more so I went back to my routine. That was until I came across this product after a bit of research. I got the co-wash shampoo in the mail ( I was honestly planning to try DEVACurl, but this was readily available online via the website), and tried it immediately.
I brushed out my hair prior to wetting my hair and gave it a shot.

THE VERDICT:

It's a low-sud consistency, so it spreads more like a nourishing, cleansing gel rather than a shampoo. I found that it spreads quite well if your hair's brushed through. The scent was delicately herbaceous and therapeutic, I decided to amp the heat up for a steamy shower to intensify the scent while massaging the scalp for a good 3-5 minutes so I could get a squeaky clean feel.
Post-rinse, my hair felt soft and as if it was deeply conditioned. I used a daily hair treatment and conditioner after, and proceeded to apply curling creme, then blow-dry my hair with a cool setting as you would with a diffuser.

The itching didn't necessarily stop; it's my demise as no product helps tbh, but it wasn't as intense as it normally would get. It does eliminate a good amount of build-up despite it's low-sud consistency which is pretty impressive on my end.

A lot of reviews online claimed that it had no detangling effect, and while it is true to a point - my hair does bunch up in a tangle even when it's poker-straight.

At the end of the day, my desire for a healthier scalp was satisfied. I use this every week and use MorocconOil's clarifying shampoo every two weeks.
