Couples are getting engagement piercings over rings

From succulent nail art to cuticle tattoos, we’ve seen our fair share of odd beauty trends emerge on social media. Now, a dermal piercing in lieu of an engagement ring is the one taking the internet by storm. Yep, that’s right. Couples are now piercing diamonds onto their fingers instead of getting traditional rings – ouch!

So what is a dermal piercing?
A dermal piercing differs to regular piercings (like the ones in your ears or nose) in that it pierces a single point on a flat surface of the body. It is then held in place by a dermal anchor undreneath the skin.
And we have to say, they do look super pretty...

Professional body piercer, Billy DeBerry explained to People that while there’s been a surge in popularity lately thanks to social media, he’s actually been doing finger dermal piercings for years.

“Micro dermal anchors are safe and the body will hold them for years, as long as they’re in ideal places and if implant-grade titanium is used,” Billy said.

“They’re different than other piercings since it’s considered ‘surface work.’ It really lets a person get away from traditional piercings like the ear or nose,” Billy continued. “With the base being anchored into place under the surface of the skin, the tops are interchangeable with a huge variety of colors, shapes and designs.”
If you're someone who loses their ring on the reg, this might just be the perfect trend for you...
What do you think of getting a dermal piercing instead of an engagement ring? Would you ever get a dermal piercing?

No, I'm afraid I don't think this is attractive at all.

It kind of a cool idea, but not for me. My hubby got a ring tattooed on because he lost his wedding ring, so maybe that's close?

I think it's a cool idea too, IndieAna! But also not for me. I love the idea of a tattooed ring - won't get lost like a ring or caught on anything like a piercing - genius! x

I’m a huge fan of piercings, I have 3 myself but I honestly thing this trend is taking things too far.... the piercings themselves don’t look good either.

"NO!", I shout as I recoil in horror. Look, I'm all for people finding their bliss through altering their bodies in whatever crazy way they choose, but I can't help but think this is just some crazy way to skimp on the cost of wedding jewellery. There is a ring out there to suit every single person on the planet. We don't need to resort to this madness in the name of matrimony. No, no, no. Just no.

Nope! Had to skim past as I felt a bit off just thinking about it. Yuck.

No thanks. My hubby faints at the sight of a needle so I know he wouldn't go for this either.

I wonder how employers feel about this since its essentially a piercing. Other then your traditional pierced earlobe, certain places of work don't allow any other visible piercings on your body if you want to be employed there.
Someone I know had to take off her ear cartilage earring each time she went to work in her client facing role.

I don't have any piercings or tattoos and I would hate to have that piercing as an engagement ring. I want real jewellery on my fingers that I can put on or take off.
It's a No from me to that one.
