How-to: remove glitter nail polish

Glittery, textured nail polishes are striking. They’re also a lot fun, and play a fantastic role in nail art. But despite these great qualities, they’re also ridiculously hard to remove. I have even been known to go through a whole pile of cotton pads and an entire bottle of nail lacquer remover without succeeding to remove a single speck of said shimmery stuff. It’s very annoying.
But what if there was an easy way to remove these glittery flecks from your nails? A way that would ensure you’re not scrubbing or picking at your nails just to get them clean? Well, there is. And it’s actually so simple, I don’t know why we’ve never spoken about it before…
HOW TO REMOVE GLITTER NAIL POLISH
STEP 1: Grab yourself 10 cotton wool balls, and cut 10 squares of aluminium foil (around 5cm by 5cm will do just fine).
STEP 2: Saturate a cotton ball in nail polish remover and sit it on top of your nail, before placing a single foil square on top. To secure, wrap the foil around your nail. Repeat this step until one hand is complete.
STEP 3: Allow the remover to soak into the nail polish for five to 10 minutes, depending on how many coats you’ve applied. (Some nail polishes may require more time – it’s all about trial and error.)
STEP 4: Gently slide the foil off each finger, putting pressure on the nail and cotton ball as you do. (This will help grab hold of any last traces of polish.) Once removed, your nails should be free of glitter.
STEP 5: Repeat steps one to four on your other hand.
Ta-da! Easy, right? Sure, it takes a bit of time and effort, but there are not many ladies who’ll mind sacrificing that for clean, glitter-free nails, are there? I didn’t think so.
Have you ever tried to remove glitter nail polish and failed miserably? Do you avoid wearing shimmery lacquers on your digits because they’re hard to remove? Will you use this simple and easy removal trick from now on?

I don't really have this problem because I've stopped wearing nail polish on my nails since having kids, I don't know why I stopped but now I just can't seem to wear it on my hands. My toes for sure tho. I will try this technique if I ever end up wearing glittery nail polish again tho. I should tell my sisters about this though as I no they would definately use it.

Nice tips. I remember whenever I wore glitter polish, the colour would come off, but the glitter would still be there. And then I sit there rubbing the cotton onto the glitter and trying really hard to remove it. It used to put me off applying glitter in the first place.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Argh, removing glitter nail polish is so frustrating and I'm sure I damage my nails in the process. I don't have glitter polish on at the moment but it's certainly going to be my next nail polish choice, just so I can trial this method.

Ah! Glitter nail polish can be hard to remove!!!! I will try this next time! I often avoid my glitter nail polishes as I'm afraid I won't be able to remove them! Removing glitter nail polish can ruin my nails, so I'll try this next time.

I use this method. I use a cotton pad though - I split it in half and cut each half into 5 bits. It's much easier to get a smaller piece to stay on your nail than a big cotton ball. If you're careful you can keep the glitter on the cotton and not all over your fingertips.

I don't seem to have any trouble removing my glitter or gel nail polish. I just concentrate on removing it from one nail at a time, cotton balls or makeup pads and nail polish remover and good old fashioned elbow grease. HaHaHa SandraXxX

Awesome tips! Glitter polish removal is a bit time consuming though, so I tend to not use it very often even though I love it :(

I've heard about the foil before but I didn't know how to do it so last time i just rubbed a little nail polish remover on my fingernails then put foil on top for only a minute, then removed it, and nothing happened lol. Will have to try this the 'proper' way.
