How-to: remove glitter nail polish

Glittery, textured nail polishes are striking. They’re also a lot fun, and play a fantastic role in nail art. But despite these great qualities, they’re also ridiculously hard to remove. I have even been known to go through a whole pile of cotton pads and an entire bottle of nail lacquer remover without succeeding to remove a single speck of said shimmery stuff. It’s very annoying.
But what if there was an easy way to remove these glittery flecks from your nails? A way that would ensure you’re not scrubbing or picking at your nails just to get them clean? Well, there is. And it’s actually so simple, I don’t know why we’ve never spoken about it before…
HOW TO REMOVE GLITTER NAIL POLISH
STEP 1: Grab yourself 10 cotton wool balls, and cut 10 squares of aluminium foil (around 5cm by 5cm will do just fine).
STEP 2: Saturate a cotton ball in nail polish remover and sit it on top of your nail, before placing a single foil square on top. To secure, wrap the foil around your nail. Repeat this step until one hand is complete.
STEP 3: Allow the remover to soak into the nail polish for five to 10 minutes, depending on how many coats you’ve applied. (Some nail polishes may require more time – it’s all about trial and error.)
STEP 4: Gently slide the foil off each finger, putting pressure on the nail and cotton ball as you do. (This will help grab hold of any last traces of polish.) Once removed, your nails should be free of glitter.
STEP 5: Repeat steps one to four on your other hand.
Ta-da! Easy, right? Sure, it takes a bit of time and effort, but there are not many ladies who’ll mind sacrificing that for clean, glitter-free nails, are there? I didn’t think so.
Have you ever tried to remove glitter nail polish and failed miserably? Do you avoid wearing shimmery lacquers on your digits because they’re hard to remove? Will you use this simple and easy removal trick from now on?

This method is much better than using half a bottle of nail polish and countless tissues like I have in the past!

I find the cheaper nail polishes that are glitter or textured hard to remove but had tried soaking the cotton bud in remover and leaving it to soak for 10 seconds, it usually works for me.

HAHA speaking of, I just applied about 5 coats of OPI glitter polish yesterday, which I ummed and ahhed about, becaise I knew it would be a pain to remove them easily. This method has to be the only option. My friend told me about this, so that's what I'll be doing in a few days :) Thanks bh :)

Yes removing glitter nail polish is so annoying so I don't put it on very often. When I do I usually end up picking them which isn't good for my nails. I might try this tip the next time I need to remove glitter from my nails.

Thank You Cherie! This actually works!
I admit to being sceptical when I read this a few weeks ago. But I painted my toenails with a sunset red glitter nail polish over a week ago and starting to chip and tried nail polish remover on one toenail which did nothing. I recalled this blog and looked it up. Did my left foot and it miraculously slid off - ok, the big toe still has a bit of glitter left but a second going will fix that. Doing my right foot now.
I do remember reading something similar to clean the oven shelves - ok, not using nail polish remover! But covering them overnight in the foil - not sure what you put on them - maybe dishwashing liquid? Will have to look that one up. Interested to know why it works - obviously something in the foil does the trick - even hubby was amazed!

there is almost nothing worse than the agony and effort of trying to remove glitter nail polish! i know this method above would work, however i dont love the idea of letting my skin marinate in the foil with the remover.... as some of that would get absorbed in that time, and remover is pure nasties!

I've always avoided glitter nail polishes because they're so hard to remove but this is a really easy technique my manicurist showed me for removal of nail polish. you can also use the flat edge of a cuticle stick to push the polish off the nail as well

I hear about this technique everytime I get fed up with removing my polish. Never actually tried it though. Seems too time consuming although in the long run it may be a better option.
