Do your bit for ovarian cancer research

Did you know that February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month? The whole month is dedicated to raising awareness for ovarian cancer and to recognise women – as well as their families and friends – affected by ovarian cancer.

So how can you get involved? Well, it’s very simple actually. All you need are your nails and a fabulous shade of teal polish.

See, teal is the official colour of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, and the good folks at Chemmart have decided to release a limited edition teal nail polish pack called Colour for a Cause that you can purchase* for $6.99 during the month of February. All proceeds will go to Ovarian Cancer Australia to help with raising awareness for the cause, as well as helping to support it and fund research programs.

Selected Chemmart pharmacies will also be offering in-store manicures to get your digits looking all kinds of fabulous. All they ask for in return is a gold coin (which will be passed on directly to the OCA.)

I will be doing my part and I have the early stages of Ovarian Cancer when I was 29 and I had to fight with so many doctors to take my Ovaries out. As many said i was too young and that I shouldnt have surgery; then after a scan another doctor told me that as he could see that the Ovaries hadnt bedded in that he was willing to do the surgery. And so I went in being positive and I was very lucky and they said if i had waited I may have had to go through Chemo or worse. So I was a very lucky person who got lucky with a doctor who understood how i felt. As I had 2 children, and wanted to be around for them. I had to have radiation and I still get checks to make sure that I dont have any secondaries that can occur. But now my Older sister who did have bowel cancer and got through that. Then 3 years later she asked me what my symptoms were. I told her and she went to see her doctors. And not only has she got Ovarian Cancer but she also has lung cancer and Cancer deposists on her rib bones. And they are all secondary cancers due to the bowel cancer, that had left little bits in her blood stream. Her diagnosis isnt too good and she is going through Chemotherapy and also a new drug Avastin which has been doing its job. However I only talked to her last night and she isnt too well as she had a break from the treatment for 1 month and a couple of the cancers in her lungs have grown. So I like many always get on board for this terrible illness.

I love the colour teal and this is a wonderful cause that doesnt always get as much awareness as other cancers so more than happy to help with this cause.
