11 of the best highlighting and contouring kits

There has been no bigger beauty trend than highlighting and contouring. Thanks to celebs like Kim Kardashian and the rest of the Kardashian Klan, this make-up artist's tricks has hit the mainstream and women all over the world are doing their utmost to nail the technique. And while there certainly is an art in knowing where to put your lighter colours and darker colours, you need to make sure you’re using the right kinds of products, too.
The market has pretty much exploded with highlighting and contouring kits, giving you guys so many options to choose from. Here are just a few of our favourites.
#1: MAYBELLINE NEW YORK FACE STUDIO MASTER SCULPT CONTOURING PALETTE
Use the brown shade under your cheekbones and on either side of the bridge of your nose to accentuate the angles. Then use the lighter, shimmery shade on your cheekbones and on the bridge of your nose to finish it off.
#2: NAPOLEON PERDIS THE ULTIMATE CONTOUR PALETTE, $60, WWW.MYER.COM.AU
Don’t you love it when a product does all the hard work for you and tells you where each shade goes? Follow the handy-dandy guide and you’re moments away from a gorgeously sculpted face.
#3: ELIZABETH ARDEN PURE FINISH MINERAL BRONZING POWDER
Besides the fact that this bronzing duo will enhance your features and leave your skin looking luminous, it’ll actually care for your skin, too. Vitamins A, C and E will soothe and moisturise your skin, while SPF 20 will protect your skin from the sun.
#4: MIRENESSE CRYSTAL COLOUR DROPS HYDRATING MINERAL POWDERS
These four shades will help lift and contour your complexion while leaving your skin looking positively radiant. The powders are also free from parabens and talc and are suitable for sensitive skin – yay!
#5: ILLAMASQUA SCULPTING DUO, $39, WWW.MYER.COM.AU
The matte, netural brown will help give your angles more definition, while the shimmering champagne shade will help highlight and illuminate the high-points of your face (like your cheekbones and brow bones.)
#6: MODELCO HIGHLIGHTING TRIO
The perfect compact for the girl looking for a radiant and glowing contoured finish. Just dab a touch of the illuminser on your cheekbones, the bronzer under them, and some blush on the apples of your cheeks for a shimmering finish.
#7: KAT VON D SHADE + LIGHT CONTOUR PALETTE
This Sephora-stocked bad boy has fast become a favourite among the contouring community and for good reason, too. The matte contouring shades are perfect for creating subtle shdows, while the light shades have just the right amount of shimmer for subtle luminosity.
#8: PAULA’S CHOICE BLUSH & CONTOUR PALETTE
Want your angles and a flushed finish, too? No problemo. This kit not only gives you the powders to contour and highlight, but also provides enough blush options to leave you satisfied.
#9: AUSTRALIS AC ON TOUR HIGHLIGHTING AND CONTOURING KIT
Not only does this palette feature six powders (three for highlighting, three for contouring), but it also comes with a very handy how-to guide.
#10: IT COSMETICS MYSCULPTED FACE
Those with a few lines and wrinkles should avoid shimmery products, which makes this palette the go-to for older women looking to define their features thanks to the inclusion of the matte highlighter shade. Plus, there are four contouring shades to suit all skin tones.
#11: LAURA MERCIER FLAWLESS CONTOURING PALETTE
This palette features highlighting and contouring shades in a cream formulation, which can be used before or after your foundation. For a more subtle contour finish, use under your base, and for a fiercer look, apply after.

This should stop. Let's go back to pretty makeup looks, not weird and overdone.

I’m really bad and contouring, as I never get the right proportions! It would be cool if BH could do a video on it!

I have the AC on Tour palette and although I do like to use it I think I actually prefer to contour using creams rather than powders. I am really enjoying using the Revlon double ended cream sticks at the moment to highlight and contour.
