Daring lip colours for brave beauties

You’ve mastered the red lip and pulled off the bright pink, but now it’s time for a new challenge.
And it’s not going to be easy.
I’m not talking nudes and oranges either. I’m talking about the colours you see on catwalks and fashion shoots that you’d never dare to wear in real life.
Well, I’m daring you.
If you choose to accept, Cathy Cerovac, make-up mrtist at Beauty Ink, has offered her top tips on how best to proceed.
Yellow
Yellow is a hard colour to pull off no matter what product you’re trying it out with. As it’s such a light colour it can be difficult for it to show up on your skin. Cathy suggests concealing and powdering the entire lip area first. This will create a neutral base to allow the colour to be really prominent. Cathy recommends lining and filling the lips with a highly pigmented yellow pencil before finishing off with a yellow matte lipstick.
Try: NYX Macaroon Lippie in Citron (www.nyxcosmetics.com)
Blue
“Blue lips would suit someone that has dark features; dark hair, dark eyebrows, olive skin tone and brown eyes – someone that has a warm tone,” explains Cathy. “Somebody that is a cool colour can also wear blue lipstick but it would have to be more of a pastel shade and I would recommend matching this with a touch of grey on the eyes.”
Try: Sleek Pout Paint in Peek A Bloo ($13.95, www.crushcosmetics.com.au)
Green
Rihanna managed to pull it off, so why can’t you? For green lips, Cathy suggests using a foundation shade that’s slightly darker than your natural skin tone to make your skin glow and not looked washed out against the green. “I would then base the rest of my colours on golds and neutral browns to ensure there’s no clashes with the green.”
Try: Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss in Shoot (myer.com.au)
Black
You don’t have to turn Goth to wear black lips, but Cathy does admit it can be tricky not to look pale while wearing this lip colour. She suggests to again use a foundation slightly darker than you’d normally wear: “I would also contour the check bones, hair line and jaw line and line the eyes with a grey liner to keep the focus on the lips.”
Try: Manic Panic Matte Lipstick in Raven Black ($16, www.manicpanic.com)
Have you ever tried any of the above lip colours? If you had to choose, which would you be most likely to try?

I don't like any of them and it would be very hard to pick one, maybe a mix of them. I just think beauty products for me are about enhancing natural beauty and none of those colours would do anything for me. I see the blue and I think frozen or dead person, I know how sad am I.

I would love to try a yellow lipstick! Couldn't find a beautiful yellow colour in the stores though.

I don't think I could wear these colours. I do remember wearing mauve or purple as a teenager though.

Well, we punk-when-teens ladies were wearing these colours back in the eighties... I have a photo of me with an orange mohawk and green lips... we used eye shadows like lip powders to accomplish this. I used all the colours, except yellow and bright orange, because it made my olive skin look bright yellow as well.
The only problem was you could never eat or drink anything because you didn't know if the colour ingredients were safe to ingest... Ahh, those were the days!

I am all about my lipsticks. At the moment I'm obsessed with purples and browns
I would definitely attempt these colours, you can always find a suitable occasion for an out there lippy!

Um, no! I don't think any of those colours look flattering, they're for catwalks/stages only.
