Ariana Grande’s makeup artist reveals the secret to nailing her cat-eye

Ariana Grande is known for a few things - her insane vocals and iconic high ponytail for starters. But one thing the singer is never seen without is an impeccable cat-eye.
Makeup artist Ashley Holm, the woman behind Ariana’s most well-known makeup looks (from the ‘God is a woman’ video clip to the Met Gala) recently shared the top tips and tricks she has picked up from working with the singer.

“Everything from bronzed chiseled cheeks, sun-kissed highlighted skin, matte lips, winged liner and wispy lashes,” Holm tells Refinery29 of Ariana’s go-to look. “[She’s always] working on ways to play off her staple look using different products, colours and techniques.”
One thing that never changes? The singer’s love of a perfectly flicked liner. “Eyeliner and eyes in general are a major focus for our looks,” Holm explains. “I’m constantly switching up the brands and products I use, but right now I’m loving the Smashbox Jetset Waterproof Liner and Nudestix Rock N’ Roller Eyeliner Ink.”

Holm’s number one trick for replicating Grande’s perfectly winged liner: “use an angled eyeliner brush to extend the wing and make sure the wing is angled upward towards the tail end of your eyebrows to lift the eyes up.”

I'm great at doing eyeliner on some days, other days I have to redo it a million times before I get it right! I normally avoid doing it because of that

She is a tiny little person with these little doll features. Her face suits these every specific looks. I think everyone can suit a liquid eye look, you just have to find the right one.

I agree you need to finish on a upward slant or else it looks droopy.

I love winged eyeliner, it really makes my eyes look bigger. It can be difficult to draw though

No tricks from me! It seems it really can suit some people much better than others because of their eye shape.

I always use my applicator tip and line it up from my eye to my brow, then make a little dot so I have somewhere to aim. Makes both sides a little more even as well.

I'm all for a small flick but I can't be convinced to do a full on winged liner. That being said, I think Ari is cute and maybe its just me but she looks the same all. the. time. Same makeup, same hair. IDK why her mua says they change up her looks. I don't see any change?
