Here's what you need to know about getting an eyelash lift and tint

By now most of you probably know how obsessed I am with my eyelashes.
I am a self-proclaimed mascara addict, and while it may be my favourite step in my makeup routine, it unfortunately happens to be the most time consuming step as well.
I know that for most people mascara takes all of about 5 seconds. But for me, a true mascara aficionado, my mascara application can take anywhere from 5 seconds to 15 whole minutes, depending on how fierce I’m trying to look that day.
Over the years I’ve tried lots of different ways to cut down the time I spend applying mascara. I’ve tried eyelash extensions, falsies, a million different mascaras, and most recently, I tried a lash lift and tint.

What is a lash lift and tint?
A lash lift is like a perm for your eyelashes. It gives the effect of what your lashes would look like if you used a mechanical curler everyday. It really opens the eye and can make your lashes look much thicker and longer than they actually are.
A lash tint is essentially the same concept as a brow tint — dying your eyelashes a shade or two darker so they stand out more. This combination results in darker, thicker, and longer-looking lashes that don’t require curling or mascara. Who doesn’t want that?!
What is the maintenance on a lash lift and tint?
A last lift and tint lasts about 6 weeks and there is essentially no maintenance between treatments. You can still wear mascara, wash your face as normal, get your lashes wet in the shower, and use makeup remover and all your normal products.
The treatment costs about $100-$150 total.
Why choose a lash lift and tint over eyelash extensions?
There are pros and cons to both treatments. But in general, if you’re after a more natural look that requires little-to-no maintenance (beyond the actual treatment itself), then a lash lift is for you. A lash lift and tint accentuates your natural lashes — it’s your lashes but better. You’re also not pigeon-holed as much as you are with extensions, so if you’re someone who likes to use makeup remover on your eyes for example, or wants the option to wear mascara when going for a different look, a lash lift and tint may be a better option than extensions.
Eyelash extensions are better suited if you want to look like you’re permanently wearing mascara (or even false eyelashes if you go that dramatic!). They give you a full lash makeover and can quite drastically change the way your eyes look. However, they require more maintenance between treatments and can get quite pricey.
What’s the best mascara to use for a lash tint and lift?
As mentioned, you can use mascara as much as you’d like with this treatment. Because a lash lift and tint lends itself more to adding length rather than volume, I found volumising mascaras to be the best option for me.
bh recommends: Benefit They’re Real! Mascara, Rimmel Scandaleyes Reloaded Mascara, COVERGIRL LashBlast Volume Mascara, and Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara.
Left: Before lash lift and tint. Right: After lash lift and tint.

I think lash lifts are such a great alternative to extensions- falsies can be so damaging and pull out so many lashes!

Sounds good, but I''m not sure I want to spend that on my lashes.

I had been getting false eyelashes for about 6 months until all my lashes fell out. Now I have to wait until they grow back. Will never get false lashes again and definitely be trying a tint and lift once my natural lashes have grown and are healthy again

Ooh, I tint mine because I’m unable to wear mascara, but didn’t know about the lift option. Checking this out now!

I’m curious about getting a lash lift so I don’t have to worry about eyelash curlers.

It's bit expensive for me, it must be the lash lift part because tints are fairly cheap.

I've had a lash tint done in the past but I don't think I would have another because the tint didn't last that long. I'm happy to stick with applying mascara. As for a lash lift - no way!

I love how a lash lift curls up your lashes and opens your eyes up! I have dark eyelishes, so a tint doesn't do much, but the lift definitely makes a difference to my short (asian) eyelashes.
Also love that there's no major aftercare or maintenance required.

I've tried it and it cost me $55. It was a nice experience especially that my therapist was professional. I loved how my lashes looked, however, I won't bother to do it again. I was curious about it that's all.

I have had my lashes tinted in the past when I was much younger and it was just so great not having to use mascara all the time as my lashes are quite fair. A lash lift is something I haven't heard of but the price is quite overwhelming and having it done every six weeks ends up expensive, more than going to the hairdresser. Certainly would be interested in having my lashes tinted again, but as there are different techniques I am not sure who to see anymore as these salons now do not seem so reputable and my eyes are quite sensitive. Will probably just stick with the mascara.

I get an eyelash tint every few months and love it. I had a lash lift once and I loved it, however, it really irritated my eyes for weeks afterwards. I am not sure if it was my beautician, but for this reason I wouldn't get it done again.

I am going to bite the bullet on the price and get it done before my honeymoon...I’m going to be too lazy to do a full makeup look overseas!

I can see a big difference but my eye area is one place I don't mess with. The furthest I'd go is wearing mascara.

Looks fabulous but just not in my budget. I also have super sensitive eyes so that would worry me.
