Fragrances for girls who don't like perfume

Does the mere thought of a perfume department make you feel queasy? It’s not just in your head: some people are hypersensitive to strong scents, experiencing nausea and headaches at the hint of a top note. But just because you can’t tolerate traditional fragrances doesn’t mean you can’t smell pretty! Every girl deserves a signature scent – and here are our top picks for less pungent perfumes.
Clean Original Eau de Parfum, $69, cleanperfume.com
The original perfume-for-girls-who-don’t-like-perfume, this pure, fresh fragrance is inspired by the scent of a simple bar of soap, making you smell, well…clean. The sleek glass bottle with silver stopper is equally understated and the brand uses non-irritating, hypoallergenic formulas in all its fragrances. Overall, an inoffensive option for the perfume-averse.
Bobbi Brown Almost Bare Fragrance
True to its name, this fresh, floral perfume is exceptionally light, making it a great choice. With a delicate balance of Italian bergamot and violet leaves, the fragrance has a soft cedar and warm amber background designed to relax and soothe – rather than shock – the senses.
Philosophy Amazing Grace Perfumed Body Spritz
One of Philosophy’s best-selling scents, this refreshing body spritz is less concentrated than a traditional perfume, while still offering a feminine fragrance. With top notes of bergamot and soft muguet blossoms, it’s also a great multi-tasker, providing moisturising and antioxidant benefits to the skin. Use alone or as a fragrance base.
The Body Shop Coconut Beautifying Oil
For the super scent-sensitive, an all-natural source of perfume can be a good option. Organic, cold pressed coconut oil is our personal fave – not only does it smell deliciously sweet, it also makes a great moisturiser. But the best thing about it? You can buy it from the health food section of your local supermarket, avoiding the perfume aisle altogether. Smooth over your body in the shower for a luxurious, hydrating effect.
Which subtle scent do you most like the sound of? Which one do you think would suit you best?

The Body shop one sounds the best, but when you are working from home it seems a bit pointless to wear perfume, so it takes me ages to get through a bottle.

I love that you posted this! Strong smells sometimes trigger migraines; I had no idea that there was a whole category of subtle-scent perfumes.

Great article as I'm thinking of doing away with perfume's altogether since my hay fever act's up & sneezing at almost anything roller balls would be the only exception for me as it's not too strong but still has a smell to it. I like the one's here I wonder if they have them in rollerball's too?

Some of the fragrances mentioned might be just right for me because I'm one of those people who just cannot wear perfume.
Even the smell of some perfumes gives me an instant headache; and walking through the perfume section of a department store is not pleasant at all.
