6 ways to detox your skin

You know when your complexion just looks a little dull? When it’s dry, congested, flaky and generally just a bit blah?
Well, just like our bodies, our skin can sometimes become rundown too. Every now and then, it’s a good idea to give your skin a good detox from the stresses caused by everyday life including food, pollution and weather.
Now that winter is here and we’re changing our skincare routines to suit the cooler months ahead, there’s no better time to decongest and revitalise your skin with a detox.
Try these tricks to get your skin back on track to looking and feeling healthy, refreshed and revived.
#1. Ditch greasy foods
As much as hot chips are incredibly appetising (honestly, how can you say no?!), we all know greasy food is not great for our insides, and this has a knock-on effect with our skin as well. Try steering clear of oily, fried foods for a week to let your skin rid itself of excess oil and toxins.
#2. Fill your fridge with fruit and veg
Bursting with skin-loving antioxidants and nutrients, up your intake of fruits and vegetables in a variety of colours to help guard your skin against free radicals and restore the health of your skin cells. Try snacking on skin superfoods such as strawberries and blueberries to give your skin a hit of collagen-boosting vitamin C.
#3. Sip a detoxing tea
Rich in antioxidants, green and also aloe vera, teas can neutralise toxins in the body, which results in much clearer, radiant skin. It’s also a good idea to up your water intake to flush out your system, and add a squeeze of lemon to help your skin’s cell regeneration process.
#4. Slough away dead skin cells
If your skin looks and feels dry, dull and flaky, it’s time to give it a gentle scrub. Apply the scrub to your fingertips and smooth it over your whole face using circular motions. This will help unblock your pores and clear away dead skin cells to reveal fresh, glowing skin.
Try: Garnier Clean Detox Gentle Brightening Scrub, Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Pore Scrub
#5. Do a DIY steam facial
To cleanse deep into your pores, the trick is to open them up, and the best way to do that is through steam. Fill a basin or bowl with very hot water, add a couple of drops of tea tree or eucalyptus oil, lean over and place a towel over your head the bowl for 10 minutes, and let the steam work it’s magic!
#6. Pop on a decongesting mask
Clay masks are super effective for drawing impurities out of the skin and absorbing pore-clogging oils and sebum. Clay masks usually go on the skin wet, but then dry up to signal that its finished deep-cleaning the skin and enriching it with minerals and antioxidants.

I exfoliate once a week with my enzyme exfoliant, and then top with natural and hydrating products to repair and replenish the freshly cleansed skin, without clogging it back up with chemicals.

I do at least two of these a week! Green tea and fresh lemon juice is one of my favourites!
People say that steam doesn't open pores, that it's just a myth! Any insight into this BH?

Lemon and mint infused overnight in my water bottle. Drink in the morning as a refreshing and detoxinhg beverage. Yummo! You can also put berries in (frozen berries work well), lime, grapefruit, fresh ginger... such a nice alternative to soft drink!
