Bedside beauty essentials: The skincare to use before sleep

Bedside beauty essentials are the products that you just have to have on your nightstand. I know for me, it's some Deep Sleep Pillow Spray by This Works ($39, mecca.com.au), a Mecca Cosmetica Lip De Luscious SPF 25 ($28, mecca.com.au) and some Feather and Down Soothing Body Oil. But the most important thing to consider? The skincare to use before sleep.

To find out what other beauties use, we asked our staff and bh members to share their bedside beauty essentials. So if you're ready to stock up on the skincare to use before sleep, read on...
“I keep some Swisspers Green Tea Facial Cleansing Wipes 25s for those too-lazy-to-remove-make-up times on there. Also I keep some Kosmea Hydrating Rosewater Mist handy to spritz my skin when it's feeling a little dehydrated. A’kin Pure Radiance Rosehip Oil is great as well, I like to rub some into my cuticles, under my eye area or into my dry heels.” – Melissa
“On my beside table there’s lipgloss, lip scrub, hand cream and my plush toy duck called Runtykins that was given to me from my best friend.” – flutter
“My bedside table is prime real estate for beauty products. Only the very best make it there. And they only stay if they really perform. At the moment you’ll find Jurlique Biodynamic Beauty Eye Cream, Sisley Ecological Compound, Botanical Extracts Enzyme Exfoliant, Elizabeth Arden Vintage Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant (so useful and so cute in the little glass tub) and a giant glass of water. Plus my current obsession: the brand new Jeanne Lanvin fragrance which lands on counter mid-September. Trust me, you’ll fall head over heels for it, too.” – Alica, bh Editor
“A pot of lip balm, rich hand and foot cream with lavender essential oil, cuticle oil and a glass of water.” – Princess75
“Beside my bedside table, through the forest of half–used moisturiser bottles and a sea of lipgloss, I have my trusty Nivea Lip Care Caregloss & Shine to ensure beautiful, nowhere-near-chapped lips in the morning, my Dr. LeWinn’s Puressence Eye Gel because it is so soothing and there is no fear of a puffy eye encounter the next day! I also have my Sebamed Clear Face Anti Pimple Gel/Coloured Cream for any blemishes that I spy before bed, as well as a RevitaNail Top Coat to seal my fresh paint job. Last but not least, I always keep a full glass of water besides my bed to stay hydrated through the night.” – Olivia, bh Admin Assistant
“L'Occitane Shea Lip Balm, Pure Innosense Reviving Body Lotion (Chamomile & Feijoa) and Living Nature Nature's Hydrating Mist for when it's hot.” – music
“Lucas' Papaw Ointment, Cetaphil®, a nail file and tweezers…you never know when a stray eyebrow may appear!” – maryjane
“I always have a supply of Lucas' Papaw Ointment or an olive oil based balm for my lips (I put it on before bed and wake up with baby, smooth lips), Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula, QV Face Revitalising Eye Cream (cheap and excellent) and acne treatment Benzoyl Peroxide 5% for any last minute breakouts.” – Belladonna13
“What isn't there? I have at least eight hand and body creams, two toners – Clinique Clarifying Lotion and Natural Instinct Hydrating Toner, Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief. There’s also The Body Collection Wild Strawberry Lip Balm, Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Intense Eau De Parfum and Lancôme Miracle…It's a wonder my clock radio fits there too!” – Face Paint
“I need a bedside bookshelf, not just a bedside table. Currently, alongside the masses of books, iPod speakers and alarm clocks, I have Tresemme No Frizz Iron Style & Hold Spray, Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1, Yes to Carrots C Me Smile Lip Butter (Citrus), L’Oreal Paris Age Perfect Night – I swear by rich night creams designed for slighter older skin – Johnson’s Dreamy Skin Body Lotion®, Dove Go Fresh Energise Body Wash (that and a silky eye mask that came with the new John Frieda FRIZZ-EASE Overnight Hair Treatment).” – Sarah, bh Editorial Assistant

This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray is fabulous but make sure you keep it away from baby boys and young boys as the lavender in it is endocrine disrupting and can cause gynecomastia!

Lip balms and handcreams are a must for me. Throw in a sleeping mask and I'm good for the night :)

My bedside table is overwhelmed by all the products I ‘need ‘ in reach. I have my hydrating serums (you never know which one you want tonight), fave moisturiser from Embryolisse, Josh Rosebrook facial mist, Alpha H Liquid Gold, pain killers and of course, a water bottle.
