How to make your own face mask

Fancy, store-bought face masks are fantastic, but a DIY face mask is quick and easy to make – and you probably already have the nourishing natural ingredients lurking in your pantry!
Whether you have dry skin, oily/acne-prone skin, or dull skin, these recipes will take your complexion from lacklustre to #nextlevel...
Dry skin solution: Avocado face mask
Rich in antioxidants, monounsaturated fatty acids, and vitamins C and E, the avocado in this mask is excellent for firming, hydrating and softening skin.
You will need:
- 1 ripe avocado
- 1 cup corn starch
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Step 1. Mash a ripe avocado in a bowl.
Step 2. Add 1/4 cup corn starch, and 1 tbsp each of lemon juice and olive oil. Mix together.
Step 3. Apply to your face, and leave for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing off with water.

Oily/acne-prone skin solution: Egg white honey mask
Honey is a natural antiseptic, so this mask is brilliant for banishing blemish-causing bacteria.
You will need:
- 1 egg white
- 1 tsp honey
- Ground oats
Step 1. Whip together egg white and honey in a bowl until well combined and a bit frothy.
Step 2. Gradually add ground oats until a paste forms.
Step 3. Apply the paste your face (avoiding the eyes) and massage it gently into your skin.
Step 4. Leave the mask on for 10 minutes, then remove with warm water.

Dull skin solution: Yoghurt face mask
The yoghurt in this mask contains skin-brightening lactic acid, while the oatmeal will help to soothe and soften your complexion.
You will need:
- 1 tbsp plain natural yoghurt
- 1 tbsp milk (or a little less, to create a paste)
- 1 tbsp oatmeal
Step 1. Place the yoghurt, milk and oatmeal in a small bowl and mix well.
Step 2. Apply to your face and leave on for 10-15 minutes.
Step 3. Massage skin, then rinse mask off with water.
bh member tip: To make a natural skin scrub from the same ingredients, simply grind the oatmeal to a finer consistency.

I have dry skin and that recipe for face mask for dry skin sounds like magic. I love eating my avocado but havent tried it on my face yet. Will give it a go once i get my hands on some ripe avocados. I often mix chickpea flour, milk amd turmeric to get that quick glow before heading out for some occasion.

I have done mashed strawberries and yogurt before. It made my skin glow! There are some health shops around where you can by all the different clays. They are stored in big jars and you can measure it out and take as much as you need. You also choose the type of clay you want to suit what you are looking for. I usually make my own mix using the clay with manuka honey, spirulina or wheat grass powder and a fruit like banana or avocado. You can just mix it with a tiny bit of spring water or herbal tea as well. Good stuff!

I've made many DIY masks but I feel that they generally aren't on the skin long enough to have much of an effect, unfortunately. But the pampering time is nice!
