bh’s Astrid reviews Clarins Beauty Flash Balm

1. Had you heard of this product before? What were your expectations?
Yes, and I do love Clarins products, so my expectations were pretty high. I’m a sucker for anything that promises to brighten my skin, and given this is such a hyped up product (how good can it really be?!) I was eager to give the Beauty Flash Balm a good go.
2. What were your first impressions upon using the product?
Reading the instructions, I found there were two ways to use it: as a primer before applying make-up, and as a mask left on for around 10-15 minutes. I went with the mask route first, and as someone who likes a heavy cream, I thought the consistency would have been thicker. I watched as the product absorbed into my skin, and by the time it came to rinsing, there were hardly any signs of it left on my face! After gently washing, my face felt really smooth. The second time, I used it as a primer, and I prefer using it this way. It’s very nourishing (I don’t like matte primers), and you don’t need to use that much, as opposed to when you’re applying it as a mask.
3. After continued use of the product what did you notice about the quality of your skin?
I haven’t noticed a huge amount of difference in terms of brightness (granted, I’ve only used it a few times), though I am determined to persist. My skin feels super smooth, and I do love that it makes my make-up look more radiant.
4. Do you think this product has earned its status as iconic – why/why not?
I’m yet to decide if it’s worth the price of $60, but that’s only because I haven’t had a huge amount of time to trial it. I think it’s certainly an impressive product, I’m pretty happy with the results so far, and I have every intention of using the balm until the very last squeeze.

I love it - I don’t use it as a mask - I use it under my moisturiser - as recommended. It instantly tightens your skin - like an external Botox ? Basically it’s for use under make up - and in conjunction with the eye balm it’s amazing.

Never tried it but would not spend $60 on something for my face unless on sale

Clarins beauty flash balm is great to have for the rare times that I now wear make up. It certainly gives make up a better application. I’ve been using it on and off for many years. It’s pricey but the couple of times I did try something cheaper it just didn’t give the same effect.

I liked the honesty of this review. I have been wondering how best to use this product, i.e. as a primer or as a mask, so found this review helpful.

I opened a tube of it today. the first thing that struck me, and not in a good way, was it is so perfumed, overly perfumed and its not a good fragrance. I do not know why skincare needs fragrance. i used it as a primer, it felt very drying on my skin so I am not sure if for me it live sup to its hype. Will try it as a mask and see if that fairs better, although I am unsure I can put up with the scent for that long.

As someone who is 40 plus, this is a great product. It smooths and sooths delicate skin. A good Friday refresher before going out!

This seems a bit costly and I'm sure there are similar but cheaper products that give the same results.

In the past I didn't appreciate this product. But recently I tried beauty flash balm again and it really does make a difference. My skin is more glowy. But it is very subtle

I love Clarins products but I haven't tried this before. If it makes your skin nice and dewy I might give it a go!

This one is on my list to try, but we shall have to wait and see - it is a bit pricey.

I would love to try this product out - definitely when there is a GWP offer on!

Great and honest review Anna. I too dislike matte primers and love radiance of well nourished skin, so this would be great to try. so true, in short time hard to see so much difference

I'm yet to try this, not sure if it's worth the $60 price tag, just to mainly use as a primer

This doesn't really appeal to me. I've got a lot of active products that give me a glow naturally

Could not agree more. That was the first reason I got into BH, as before trying anything I need to see how the product actually preforms on real and honest people. And forumites are also of great help!

I have tried this and I didn't think it did much for my skin. I hardly noticed much of a brightening effect. You're not meant to rub it in but pat it on.

I use something very similar at the moment, and the patting and rubbing, all the same to me. I just need to get a good massage to my face lol

Clarins often have great GWPs - that's the time to buy this. I really like it under makeup.

I used this years ago and found it far too heavy for my oily skin. My skin has dried a little now that I'm a bit older, but I think there are much better products on the market now.

Oh we must be opposites! I enjoyed it, but not enough to use it as a mask - too light! I love something I can really feel, something heavy. This was lovely as a primer for me due to its lightness! x
