How-to: prevent air-conditioning drying out your skin in summer

We all worship our air-con in the summer – it is simply all that stands between us existing happily or dying of heat exhaustion. Unfortunately though, as most of us know, the good old air-con is notorious for zapping all moisture from our skin. Help combat this drying effect with some of these smart product choices…
For the oily/combination sisters…
Oily and combination skin produces even more excess oil to balance itself if zapped of all its moisture. As none of us want to look like a shining beacon of greasiness by lunch, some of us skip our morning moisturiser- when all this is doing is making the situation worse. Instead, use an oil-free moisturiser like Dermalogica’s Oil Control Lotion to maintain your moisture levels throughout the day, without feeling greasy.
For the dry skinned gals…
Dry skin can feel like parchment in summer, giving us the dreaded my-skin-feels-four-sizes-too-small feeling. Looking like you’ve just had a botched face-lift isn’t exactly alluring, so consider investing in a moisturising setting spray for over your makeup. Skindinavia make the best setting sprays on the market and have a formula especially for dry skin (Moisture Lock Make Up Finish, www.skindinavia.com.au). They really do help to actually ‘lock-in’ your morning moisturiser, not to mention keeping your makeup looking fresh and dewy throughout the day.
And all together now…
Facial sprays can feel heavenly as a pick-me up during a hot day. Caudalie Beauty Elixir is fantastic (get it from ASOS or feelunique.com) and smells heavenly. A few sprays throughout the day is a great refresher and gives you a light moisture top-up.
Be mindful also of other effects that a drying atmosphere can have for us – contact-lens wearers and computer devotees, we’re looking at YOU. Refresh single-dose eye drops (available at optometrists and pharmacies) keep your eyes feeling comfortable throughout the day. The single dose capsules are also great to toss in your handbag, especially if you’re a lens-wearer.
Finally, a gentle reminder that your faithful bottle of water should be refilled at least a couple of times per day to cater for our extra needs during the warmer months.
You need only arm yourself with one or all of these anti-dryness weapons and you will ensure you look and feel great until it’s time to head home- and straight to the beach.
Do you spend a lot of time in air-conditioned rooms during summer? If so, does it dry out your skin? What are you tips for keeping your skin hydrated in summer?

These are good tips. But i have a different problem as well and its called Hyper hedrosis and its excess sweating. I only need to do something in the warm weather and my whole face sweats. It only started last year and I have to say its awful. I have to carry a fan around so that I can try and cool my face down. I have tried a cream that was advertised on TV and that didnt work. I asked my doctor about Botox and if that would help. And he said " Didnt I know that the sweat gland for the face are in the neck. And if they get the wrong spot I could loose my voice of they could get the Vocal Cords and I would have no voice. So Im still trying to find something that will help me out. As It is really terrible when my face sweats so much.

I'm not in air-conditioning to much but do have very dry skin - and a great moisturiser is a must, preferably one with a high SPF too in summer.

My skin gets so oily by midday. Facial mist is a good idea to rehydrate, some alcohol-free toners can double as facial mist.

Air con is so drying on the skin. I use a hydrating face mist to spray on my face to refresh and replace lost moisture.

Cut down of the caffeine intake in summer - keep it as a treat with a caramel donut instead and just sip water all day every day, making sure I always have a water bottle with me helps heaps!

I've got dry skin but the air con makes my skin create more oil. I guess it's trying to keep itself from drying out totally... I make sure I always moisturise though!

The Caudalie beauty elixir is beautiful and a great product for instant hydration. Other spray mists are good as well, eg Kosmea, Jurlique.

I don't really have any ill effects from the use of air conditioning thankfully. But some great tips here nonetheless.

I have hideously dry skin, so appreciate the tips. I know about feeling your skin is too small. The humidity has made me consider a makeup setting spray, one for dry skin would be ideal. I love my A'kin Rose hydrating spray, it lives in the fridge and is fantastic year round but particularly on hot humid summer days.
