5 beach bag beauty essentials

Hat? Check. Towel? Check. Sunnies? Check. Now throw these goodies into your beach bag too, pop on your swimmers, and get set to hit the sand!
TINTED LIP BALM WITH SPF
The sun, heat, seawater and salty air can suck the moisture right out of your pout, not to mention the sun can easily burn your lips. The best way to show your lips some love when you hit the beach is by slathering on a hydrating and protecting lip balm that contains SPF. Try to pick one that’s got a yummy flavour and a slight tint to give your lips some colour.

SPF 50 SUNSCREEN
Planting your bod on the sand sans sunscreen is a sure-fire way for your skin to suffer the harmful effects of sunburn (ouch!) and even encourage premature ageing. If you want to steer clear of speeding up the ageing process, make sure you apply an SPF 50 sunscreen to your entire body and face – don’t forget those less obvious areas like your ears, the back of your neck and your feet!

AFTER-SUN GEL/SPRAY
If you do happen to get sunburnt, give yourself a swift slap on the wrist for neglecting to slather on your sunscreen as often or as thoroughly as you should have, and get onto soothing the pain, stat. An after-sun gel or spray that contains aloe vera will work wonders for drawing the heat out of sunburn, and giving it an instant cooling feeling. Sweet, sweet relief!

LEAVE-IN SPRAY CONDITIONER
Salty air and water can really dry out your hair and also encourage those dreaded frizzies. After swimming, squeeze the excess water out of your hair and spritz through a leave-in spray conditioner. It’ll help to detangle your mane, tame fuzzies and give it a smoother and silkier appearance.

A BOOK THAT’S GOT YOU HOOKED
Aside from the obvious that this is not a beauty product, you can’t go past that feeling that comes with lazing on the beach and immersing yourself in a good book – or a trashy mag! Better yet, flick through the latest articles from beautyheaven on your smartphone or tablet! Ahh, those holiday feels…

I think a lot of us tend to forget about how good books can be to us when we go to beach or chill out on holiday. We tend to reach for our phones a lot

Roll on summer! It’s August. Today was cold, wet, windy and miserable. Yuck. I hate winter. As for my beach bag, I always make sure I pack SPF, and don’t forget a bottle of water.
