Microdermabrasion is the ultimate skin glow-up treatment and here’s why

Want a skin treatment that’s going to give you instant results, make your skin smoother than a 90s Brad Pitt and glowier than any highlighter could fake?
We’ve got one (slightly hard to spell) word for you: microdermabrasion.
This super exfoliating skin treatment removes all the icky surface layer skin cells on your face, to reveal the true (and more youthful) you underneath.
There’s many different types of microdermabrasion treatments (including hydro microdermabrasion and at-home options), but most are based around mechanical exfoliation using diamonds or crystals.
The treatment isn’t painful, but a little discomfort is totally worth it to reap these benefits…

Smaller pores
The intense exfoliation of microdermabrasion helps to unclog and eliminate skin congestion, often resulting in smaller looking pores. bh member Lili173 says, “I highly recommend it. Your makeup goes on better, moisturising seems to work better and you can also get away with wearing no makeup.”
An improvement in skin texture
Similarly, the removal of dead skin cells refines the skin’s texture for a smoother look and feel. “I have had microdermabrasion, many, many times, and it has improved the texture of my skin. The results have been remarkable for me.”, says bh member sassylily.
Clearer skin
If you think acne-prone skin wouldn’t benefit from microdermabrasion, it’s actually quite the contrary. As well as being excellent for aiding decongestion, the non-invasive treatment can lift off any dead skin cells that may be trapping bacteria and oil.
“I suffer from acne skin, blackheads, white heads, uneven skin tone, and massive pores. I grew up with bad skin, covering my face with a whole chunk of makeup”, says bh member GlamcoByDana. “I started [microdermabrasion] about five years ago. In the beginning I would have regular weekly treatments, then slowly fortnightly and then monthly. It was costly at the start, but it was well worth it. After a month, my friends began to question me about what I had done to my skin.”

Even skin tone
Those with acne-scarring and surface pigmentation may also see an improvement in skin tone with continued treatments. By removing dead skin cells, microdermabrasion encourages new cell renewal, resulting in a brighter complexion.
Sensitive skin saviour
For those with sensitive skin, microdermabrasion can make for a great alternative to peels. “I have sensitive skin and can tolerate microdermabrasion, but not strong peels”, says bh member Linda_Vesinger. “For example, a pumpkin peel was way too strong for me and I've learnt to stay away from similar treatments, but I've had microdermabrasion in a salon and found my skin feels smoother, looks younger and a course over a few months definitely was worthwhile.”

Twice. And both times had incredibly glass like smooth and glowy skin. Got compliments also on my skin, being bare days after. It is a good skin refresher

Microdermabrasion has been around for many years now. I had a friend to chose this method, again, many years ago, and the results for her were catastrophic. Her layer of skin was destroyed so badly that left her face with black patches, really dead skin and nerves. No doubt she did choose an operator who was not qualified at all. Many 'beauticians' are not trained in all aspects sufficiently for such a dramatic skin resurfacing practice so anyone considering, be careful.

I get occasional Groupons for facials. I've had a few sessions of microdermabrasion at various salons. In fact, I'm having a Groupon facial today, but it's not for microdermabrasion this time.

Microdermabrasion is beneficial to my skin - feels softer and smoother after. Even having an express one (only one pass) is worth it but should go regularly for maximum benefit.

I think it needs a regular routine. I had it once and it was good but better benefits from regular treatments I think...

I've never tried professional microdermabrasion - I've only just used the at-home similar products in a tube or bottle which probably isn't as effective but it avoids an appointment!!

I love microdermabrasion - especially when I have congestion on my chin, it brings it all up and purges it.
